first of all, mike allen, who used to work for mr. rogers, is screen right. the lead investigator on the benghazi stuff for a while. mike morell used to be the deputy director of the c.i.a. he's in the middle. he gave testimony last week that was favorable to, among other people, hillary clinton, who by the way, screen left, is pretty much the gate keeper for her. they all work together now in a place called beacon global strategies. isn't that cozy? >> and it comes into question why the talking points were what they were, were they changed and why weren't they accurate, right? so the questions are there. brian, the answers, you seem to try to get some today from mike rogers. >> steve had a source and we've also read a lot of speculation and said how candid could mike morell be, being that he did play a role in changing the talking points and it did work out better for the state department headed by hillary clinton, could he have an agenda? the fact that he got a job with hillary clinton's main operator, is there a nexus there? so i asked rogers how he feels

she's incredible and the supporting cast as well. >>> let's go to mike allen with a look at the playbooke on the top of politico right now is who is dr. ben carson. this is a guy who's very popular in some conservative circles. he did well in the cpac straw poll. who is this guy and how wild a wild card is he? >> he's the wildest of wild cards and he's going to keep making news in the 2016 campaign field. like this is a field that's looking for a story line, looking for people to make news. the ben carson phenomenon i think started as an online fund-raising gambit. of course as we've seen on the show he first got noticed at the national prayer breakfast a year ago. his speech three million youtube views. there's now a super pac draft ben carson, which has raised $2 million. and it's starting to build a regional political structure. so this is a former neurosurgeon from baltimore who says he doesn't want to run, won't even say he's a republican, but he does say that more physicians like himself should be involved in politics and policy. and the grassroots just has latched onto his story.

the chief white house correspondent from political, mike allen with the "morning play book." to be a good friday now. mike, explain this triage management. >> they have this bad political environment we saw in the special election in florida last month, we're seeing candidates being blitzed by the koch brother ads. democrats are saying we need to cut our losses and start focusing on members who might lose and not so much on members who have a chance. so this triage means that if you're an endangered incumbent, you're now more likely to get help from the national party in d.c. if you're one of those up-and-coming challenges, you were recruited as a candidate and the party said you'll be a great candidate, we'll be with you every step of the way, they're now having trouble getting resources. democrats say they're also polling earlier than they expected to because they're trying to gauge the damage from some of the health care news out there and from these koch brothers ads. >> this is all learning from past is pro log because of 2010? >> you're exactly right. then they lost 63 s

let's check in with the chief white house correspondent for politico mike allen who his prom date wase're checking in on the morning playbook. good to have you here. >> hope you had a great easter. >> thank you. you too. one of the stories you're following, rick perry's extreme makeover. this comes as the texas governor is facing one of his toughest political fights yet. we have eight months in his job as governor and he's the focus of a grand jury charge of abuse of power. how does this all play out for his political future? >> thomas, we saw governor perry here on "morning joe" and he was on jimmy kimmel and he spoke to the conservative political action conference. and politico has learned this is part of a deliberate strategy to reintroduce him. they're trying to remind people that "a," the governor is healthier after his last campaign. we were told a lot of his problems stem from the back medication that he was taking. and second, he's more experienced. he gets the national stage better and is less likely to stick his foot in his mouth as he did before. he's staffing up. we're tol

let's go to politico, mike allen here with the morning playbook. so, mike, washington, d.c.'imary. tell us what happened. >> well, mika, there are two lessons from this democratic primary in the d.c. mayoral race yesterday. one is that there are still surprises in politics. and, two, voters do pay attention. only a little while ago, vincent gray looked strong. he was doing very well in polls, in money. his slogan, "one city," had been appealing. but about three weeks ago, a lot of new details came out from federal prosecutors about what had gone on in his last race. there'd been a slush fund, five people associated with the mayor's election back in 2010 have been charged with crimes. and voters in d.c. said, enough. so embarrassing, it brings back memories of marion barry. voters just didn't like it. so muriel bowser is a current city councilperson, won by a huge margin, 12 points, 10,000 votes. she's 41 years old. she'll probably win the general in november, but there is a strong independent candidate, david catania, so you can't be sure of that. the "washington post" says s

mike allen is chairman of the joint chiefs of staff. they want to present to him a kinetic opportunity as allen puts it. there is a terrorist in somalia whose a want to go after and they think they know where he is. there is the series of training camps and a graduation ceremony going on for these terrorists. they don't know exactly where he is in this camp but feed you we will just take out the whole series of camps and get him so obama is kind of thinking about this and he has got his civilian advisers there too, secretary of state, secretary of defense, national security adviser, he decides he is going to pull the room and he says one by one, what do you think about this? what he is doing is kind of a subtle challenge to the joint chiefs's power, basically in biting dissent. none of them are actually willing to say what they really think, but then, against ball, there is the vice chairman of the joint chiefs of staff and he puts his hand up and says i think you need to think carefully before you do something like this. this would bas
