the april 1st snow pack survey for the central sierra came in at 38% of normal. nbc bay area meteorologist christina tells us why snow pack is more important than rainfall when it comes to getting us out of the drought. >> the sierra ski season started with uninviting conditions due to low snow accumulations, even with several late-season storms overall snow pack is still way below average. >> we're concerned about the drought. i mean, we live here in the mountains. we're concerned about fire danger in the summer. we are as pragmatic and real about this as anybody. take a look at the mountain right now, and say, there's a drought going on, but we're still able to ski. >> thanks to major technological strides in snow-making, coupled with cold overnight temperatures, tahoe ski resorts have been able to make and preserve snow, keeping large crowds content and most ski runs open. >> we've provided skiing from november all the way through. we still have a whole month of skiing left up in the mountains. >> aside from the ski resorts, you might be surprised to know that
