joining us from geneva, steve sedgwick. eve, is this the end of the diplomatic process or in some observations just the beginning? >> yeah. in many ways it could be either actually, thomas. that is the key. we don't know what the kremlin wants. we don't know if the russian foreign minister, lavrov who has been talking tough language again this morning. whether he has the mandate to deal with john kerry or to deal with the ukrainians. what's positive and it's a small thing, it's the first time since the crisis began, since late february, that we've got the ukrainian government and the russian government around the same table. remember, the russians do not recognize the kiev government as legitima legitimate. they throw out yanukovych in an illegal -- that is a bit of progress. that said, the o two sides are way apart. the ukrainians, i spoke with the prime minister last night. he said the russians are orchestrating events on the ground using their special forces to kind of back terrorists and create a ground in ukraine. we've

for more on what to expect, let's check in with steve sedgwick live in london. steve, what's the outlook for today? >> it's all about earnings, not only today but for the rest of this week as well. we've got 20% of the s&p reporting this week. last week the s&p lost 4.2%. today we have citigroup, tomorrow, coca-cola, johnson and johnson and google and bank of america on wednesday. it's all about the earnings. millions of americans are racing to complete their tax returns ahead of the deadline. the chances of getting audited are lower than for decades. there are fewer agents auditing returns since any time in the 1980s. that's potentially good news for some but it means less calls are getting answered. millions of phone calls are going unanswered, thomas. >> uncle sam wants his money. >>> real quickly, i want to talk to you about the rumors of amazon and looking now, steve, to end the smartphone rumors. they're going to have one, right? >> well, look, they've gone very heavy, as we've talked about on this show various times, now we think there will be a smartphone

that is where our own steve sedgwick joins us now. steve, what are our realistic expectations surrounding these talks? >> i think limited, ross. i question is this the last chance for diplomacy or the start of a process? i don't think we have clarity on that whatsoever. this is the first time we've had face-to-face talks between lavrov and the foreign ministers of russia and. eu's ashton and john kerry are here as well. yes, that is a positive step but in terms of where the various parties are, they seem as far away as ever. we spoke to the foreign minister last night and asked him what his expectations were for this meeting. >> the expectation is that we'll find a good solution that we all will benefit from. this expectation is the de-escalation on the ground. >> given that russia say your government is acting criminally and you say the russians are sponsoring terrorist activity in the country -- >> it was supposed to be one question. >> do you feel it's impossible to make a breakthrough? >> it's always possible if there is a will. >>
