northbound 101, first big one for the south bay. here are the low clouds, visibility is fine for drivers here and gilroy where there might be problems and we'll get you located. overall the bay area moves pretty smoothly and the fog and the orange patches along the coast and into the north bay. 101 is jammed up and all the way past 680 where we showed you the live camera up towards oakland road and earlier crash over on the shoulder. injury crash and number of injuries there. traffic starting to move better there and ripple back with the recovery as it happens at the stop signal or in this case an accident. folks use that as an alternate and slower drive and folks use capital expressway to get over here and more traffic heading over there. hold steady, folks, this should sort itself out over the next hour. we're showing a slower drive, as well, southbound 880. hayward towards union city and fremont. san mateo bridge to the peninsula with no delays, but, again, watch the fog along the immediate coast. over here along the east shore fr

he has been tracking the wind conditions for the firefighters and conditions throughout the bay area. >> the wind in the southsported to the south in that immediate area. winds not too strong, but moderate breeze around 10-12- miles an hour in the south bay. a big of a stronger breeze toward sfo and oakland airport as well. fairfield, 79 degrees. san jose, a high of 75, san francisco, 63 degrees. fog still a factor right near the immediate coastline primarily south of the golden gate bridge. closer inspection -- right now. we do have partly cloudy skies, coastal fog that will be regrouping over night, so it will gradually increase in coverage. over san francisco bay, we have mostly clear skies, a bit of a breeze out there. winds 10-20-miles an hour. tomorrow, morning fog with more sunshine extended, no major changes here a sun cloud mix and overall a dry weather pattern. overnight lows to start out your monday, showing you 40s in santa rosa, napa. san jose starting out the day 50 degrees. a total lunar escription for late tomorrow and tuesday. here's the sun, the earth and the earth's shadow casted on the moo

the clouds have moved in right now, overcast skies throughout the bay. you can see we're averaging low 60s in san francisco, pretty cloudy at this pound, also in the south bay from mid 70s yesterday, down to 65 degrees. so let's get you into the storm timeline as we head throughout tomorrow. you're going to see on the future cast throughout tonight, no major rainfall expected. a few spotty showers, mainly cloudy here across the bay. even for tomorrow morning at the commute, 6:00, 7:00, 8:00, we're going to hold off on the heaviest rainfall. looks like a few showers off into the north bay. that's going to continue through about 3:00 and also 4:00 in the afternoon. after that, the storm will be pushing out in the late evening hours. overall total, not going to be too high with the storm system as it moves in, we're only look at trace amounts to maybe .15 inch. after some dry weather the past 24 hours, if you're headed anywhere near the sierra, get ready for some abrupt changes on interstate 80, highway 50, anywhere from six to 12 inches of snow. the southern sierra will likely pick up the most snow, 12 inches in twin bridges and 18 inches in kirkwood. as w

the north bay. low 60s for the east bay and south bay we'll average 6 3 for tomorrow as well. the next 12 hours, scattered thunderstorms in the forecast, the possibility of hail, gusty winds and lightning through tomorrow overnight some lingering isolated thunderstorms possible. then for wednesday morning a few of those straggling showers in the forecast before the sun moves in. the latest again on this 8.2 earthquake in south america under tsunami warning, chile, peru, nicaragua and what we're also noting, the latest shows two aftershocks, a 6.2 within the past hour and a half. so the interesting thing to note, also, is the epicenter is offshore, so that's maybe why again, we're avoiding major video coming in of large scale damage. of course, we'll track this and have more and as we wind things up, we're continuing to monitor hawaii. that is the place where we could see some wave action if they are going to get any by 6:24 tomorrow morning. so we're watching out for hawaii. >> thank you, jeff. this story will be developing through the next several hours. next here at 6:00, how

the rest of the bay and palo alto, i should show you this first. watch the peninsula coastline and now a look at the bay area map and see the south bay and the tri-valley. back to you. >>> over in east palo alto to the family killed in a crosswalk on her way to school. she was hit and killed at gloria way in 2011. people living in that area say it was a dangerous intersection. they filed a wrongful death lawsuit saying the city maintained dangerous conditions at that intersection. the palo alto weekly reports the suit was settled last month. since the crash the city has installed flashing lights in the crosswalk and intersection warning signs and eliminated curbside parking to improve driver sight lines. the driver in that crash was never charged. >>> the woman arrested for stealing a laptop at a san francisco cafe may be behind a number of other thefts. a person looking like paul daniel rawas caught on camera stealing a flat screen tv from an apartment building last month. officers are now working to determine if she's connected to similar crimes in the area over the past few months. >>> 5:20, former san francisco supervisor will surrender today to st

in the south bay the map shows you a smooth drive northbound. the yellow southbound not a major concern. no incidents as far as traffic here in the south bay. but getting over a little slow toward the summit and northbound also reports of a crash, a solo spin-out that often happens when the roads are wet. no injuries reported but that will be partly blocked coming over from the santa cruz side. a look at the wider shot of the bay area. speeds are nice, traffic starting to pick up out of the altamont pass. not a major concern as we talk about speeds. you're all in the green except for 84 coming through livermore and we're starting the slowdown. it's typical around the surface streets. across the bay coming off the san mateo bridge an easy drive as well. 92 westbound, there is the high rise, that's what we're watching for the effects of the wind and the bay bridge and possibly san rafael bridge as well. yesterday had a wind advisory for the three. expect at least a note from chp on those as well. >> gas prices higher than $4 a gallon in california

in fact, take a look at the south bay where we're headed. rrow 77 degrees after we'll get into the upper 60s for today. but look what happens on monday and tuesday. temperatures in the 80s there. and that's the area of high pressure that will move directly overhead. winds shift offshore and that will warm up very quickly. monday and tuesday and also wednesday. we're going to be looking at temperatures about 20 degrees above where we should be for this time of year so not only is it going to be warm, it's going to be downright hot as we head through monday and tuesday for our inland valleys. for today, though, just a few high thin passing clouds from time to time not expecting much in terms of cloud cover and that will allow for temperatures to warm back to close to 70 degrees. places like san jose you'll be at 68 later on. morgan hill, 69. palo alto, 66. and san francisco, again, not overly warm for today. low skil60s. napa, 70 and walnut creek as well and livermore right at 69 degrees. of course, with all the rain we saw this past week, we h

a dramatic manhunt in the south bay is over. but two men did get away. it began overnight with an armed robbery at the 7-eleven on white road in east san jose. then the robbers hit another 7-eleven on martin avenue. police locked down the surrounding east san jose neighborhood for nearly 4 1/2 hours this morning telling people who live there to stay inside with doors locked and windows locked as well. the two suspects somehow escaped the police perimeter. the neighborhood lock-down was lifted around 9:00 this morning. >>> a report tonight of lewd behavior outside an elementary school in the east bay. it happened on wednesday afternoon at dayton elementary in san leandro. a woman told the principal she saw a man touching himself next to a classroom. the principal called police the next day. the man is described as hispanic in his late '50s to mid '60s, wearing a red wind breaker and a black baseball hat. none of the students or faculty were injure. >> it's almost finished. a new ride connecting bart passengers to oakland airport may cost more than expected

the city. nbc bay area's marianne favreau with the details in the midst of our drought. >> reporter: we have talked to several people in the south bay who say they have been waiting for weeks for san jose water company to come out and repair the leaks they reported in their neighborhood. this particular leak in san jose was repaired in just a couple of days. crews were out here all day fixing it. the asphalt was really spongy yesterday. now you can see that the water leak has been repaired. but right now the company is working to repair 20 leaks in the south bay, and that means lots of water down the drain in the middle of a drought. what a difference a day makes. this is what it looked like on rosewood avenue in san jose yesterday. and this is what it looks like today. san jose water company crews are repairing a water leak in this neighborhood near santana row that turned hard asphalt into spony surfaces. >> i don't want to come out and have a sinkhole in the middle of the neighborhood. >> reporter: san jose water company that serves 240,000 households and businesses says it simply cannot get to every leak right away. yesterda

the investigation impacted the south bay freeways for hours. highway 85 was reopened at 7:30 tonight. >> reporter: the chp did not receive a distress call from anyone in the area before the accident. so a driver's decision to pull over to the shoulder proved to be deadly. this is what is left of a ma da minivan carrying two children and a 41-year-old woman from cupertino. they were parked on the right shoulder of northbound highway 85 just before the accident that killed the young girl who was buckled into her child seat. >> most of the impact on the van is in the right rear where the child was sitting. so the vehicle -- the jeep did travel on to the shoulder and on that dirt embankment and the front of the jeep collided into the minivan and she traveled across all lanes of the freeway. >> reporter: the minivan left skid marks across the freeway. three people were sent to valley medical center. a boy in a booster seat suffered major injuries along with the 56-year-old male driver of the jeep. the female driver of the minivan suffered major injur

blue skies here across the south bay. temperatures averaging in the 60s. san francisco, the north bay, and just look at it up close here in the south bay. up limited visibility in the south and the west. 65 degrees right now near downtown. let's take you into the storm system we showed you and get you the latest on the timing. what you're going to find is tonight a little cloud cover developing up into the north bay. but we're not going to see rainfall by tomorrow morning. the biggest difference you can see is that cloud cover that moves in at 7:00 a.m. throughout the day, you can leave that umbrella at home, not expecting any rainfall, at least throughout your workday. as we head throughout 9:00, showers approaching with that storm system. we do think the main threat of this rainfall returning to the bay area will be on friday. from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. areas of scattered showers developing across the bay. then by the evening hours on friday, that storm system pushing out. overall totals, not extremely high with this, but enough to disrupt. some of this
