laurence lee joining us live from london this mortgage. thanks so much to you.ning us live in studio is jim walsh, research associate with m.i.t.'s securities studies program. it's a pleasure to have you here. >> good to see you in new york. secretary kerry is now in paris trying to broker the cease-fire and he had this to say while he was in cairo. let's take a listen to that. >> we still have some terminology in the context of the framework to work through. we believe that seven days will give all the parties the opportunities to step back from the violence and focus on the underlying causes, perhaps take some steps that can build confidence and begin to change the choices for all. >> so he talks about terminology. so what type of terminology do you think would be acceptable to israel? >> i hope he's right, number one. it's great we have a pause now. you hope a pause leads to another pause. i'm skeptical because i don't believe the fundamentals are there. a lot of folks don't realize that the israeli military's structured differently than the u.s. military. in

. >> our correspondent lauren -- laurence lee is outside the house of parliament in london. >> reporter: this is now approaching the end of the london demonstration today, one of a series held in different european capitals. this is the house of parliament here. a very large and as you can probably hear still very noisy crowd outside the palace of westminster. we think not as mch as outside the embassy earlier on where we thought it was thousands. we think it is slightly less now, but the voices are very loud and the messages are similar to what we've seen before. what we've seen today are three basic targets of the anger. obviously, the israeli government and the rejection of the israeli government's claim it's defending itself against hamas rocket fire. we heard speaker after speaker say over and over again is that, in fact, it's the gazans defending themselves against israeli aggression. that is absolutely why they think. they're at the palace westminster because they feel the western government, the british and american grovts and other are guilt kwi of hypocrisy towards the palesti

laurence lee is there. tell us what's happening. >> reporter: yes. i think and rightly so that this will have ended up being the biggest of all the european demonstrations. let me just get out of the way so you can look for yourself. obviously, it's a bit difficult to get at numbers, but certainly when it was outside the israeli embassy earlier on, we ought thought it could have been as many as 10,000 people. they subsequently marched to the houses of parliament. it seems to be shrinking as you can see. some people are gradually leaving. but it's certainly 5,000 or month. i think the people would regard it very much as a success. it's bigger than the similar demonstration last weekend. they say they'll keep going. they insist very much that -- you know, it's very difficult to tell in situations like this what this represents as a proportion of the population of the country. they would say very much that they would argue that this sort of demonstration has majority support inside the country, and certainly i think it's worth saying as well that even i
