. >> lee wellings joins us now live from london.s gone to trial, he would have almost certainly had to break ties with the f1. what does this mean for him now? >> yes, we'll get a very, very interesting period now. all of the uncertainty has been around this trial. it was unlikely he was going to serve a long jail sentence. all of the indications coming out of germany was that the most likely outcome would be something like this. although i think some people would be surprised by the manner which you can settle like that. now the partners who run formula 1, they did indicate as you mentioned that they would end their relationship with bernie. how much does he still want a place in formula 1? it has been his life for 40 years. he has been formula 1. the way he has brought sponsorship and marketing. he says all of his actions are for the sport, not for his own riches. so how is he going to work it out with those majority shareholders? might he even try to get a consortium together to buy them out, or will this be the start of the end?

lee. as well as the challenges they faced during the battle.hour-long event took place at the cold harbor battlefield in mechanicsville, virginia. >> well, thank you very much, bob. i appreciate it. and as i told the folks i talked with this morning, it's an honor for me to be here. there's something special about the battle field here at cold harbor. i came about my interest in the american civil war, i'm sure very much like most of you did. i got it from my father. my dad was born in 1901 in a little town on the tennessee/alabama board. it was just 35 years after the end of the civil war. most of those old men sitting around the grocery store were veterans. he grew up listening to their tall tales and talking to them about their battles. i was born in 1945. and when i grew up, when all of my friends were hearing fairy tales and stories from their parents, my dad was reading me books with names like lee's lieutenants, stuff like that. so we visited all the battlefields. we visited obviously gettysburg, chancellorsville. we didn't make any trip

the war was not going well, as you know. lee hoped for one big victory. vincent was part of need -- meade's army that was trying to get between lee and washington in 1863. his climactic battle was developing, although nobody expected it to occur in gettysburg. 1863, the armies collided, by mistake, actually. neither one expected to be fighting there. elements ran into each other in a small town. the second day -- this is the climactic moment of vincent's life, and i believe the battle of gettysburg. he saw a man on a horse grant orders, looking frantically for a commander to give the orders to, because little round top, which was the site of the confederate attack, although no one was sure that was going to be the case -- it was the end of the union line. it was absolutely undefended. one of the people in meade's command saw it was uncovered and sent orders to cover it immediately. but the person who brought the orders could not find the man he was supposed to give it to. franticallyhim riding around, looking for the guy, and said, what are your orders? d

lee won for literature. are there any traits you believe most pulitzer prize winners share? >> well, first of all, i would make the distinction, the very large distinction that, of course, she won the pulitzer prize for that beautiful novel. i was part of a large team of reporters that worked on a series called "gateway to gridlock" about o'hare airport. and, you know, this was very much a team effort. and so i would make that distinction. i was one of many. fascinating prompt to work on -- project to work on. i think with nell, nell and others i've met including a woman who i describe in the book, a friend who also won a pulitzer prize, you know, there was a feeling of doing something that mattered to you that had nothing to do with simply the need to make a living although, certainly, that's always a consideration in any probe negatives. but -- profession. but a sense of purpose that i think gave meaning to the lives of the people i know who have dope -- who have done that work and to their projects, a sense of it being about something more. and i'll just mention briefly, a friend

so lee stays here at cold harbor, sends some of his soldiers to the south, but doesn't do a major shift, because, again, he's uncertain as to what grant will do. well, as you civil war historians know, by june 15th, union forces are attacking at petersburg. lee is now alerted to what's going on. confederates managed to reach the town in time. there's a vigorous defense, and the war will basically devolve into a siege with many big battles, but still a siege that will last for the next ten months. i'm often asked, well, who is it that won this battle at cold harbor? and that won this big campaign between grant and lee? and i have to say, if you look at this, in terms of individual battles. lee had the upper hand in the wilderness. spotsl vainia courthouse and here at cold harbor, because each place he was able to deflect grant. but if you look at it as a unified campaign, i'd have to say grant was the winner. grant's goal was to neutralize lee's army in virginia, and he did just that. lee would be locked into the entrenchment at petersburg and richmond and be neutralized as an effective force in the war. lee's goal had been to hold his line at the r

lee, as well as the challenges they face. event took place in mechanicsville, in virginia. >>> well, thank you very much, bob. i appreciate it. as i told the folks i talked with this morning, it's an honor for me to be here. there's something special about the battlefield here at cold harbor. i came about my interest in the american civil war i'm sure very much like most of you did. i got it from my father. my dad was born in 1901, in a little town on the tennessee/alabama border. that was only 35 years after the end of the american civil war. as you might imagine, most of those old men sitting around the grocery store were confederate veterans. he grew up listening to the tall tales, talking with them about their battles. i was born in 1945. and when i grew up, when all of my friends were hearing fairy tales and stories from their parents, my dad was reading me books with names like lee's lieutenants, stuff like that. so we visited all the battlefields. we visited obviously gettysburg, chancellorsville. we didn't make any tr
