joining us now is general tom mcinerney. thank you for being with us. >> thank you for having me. >> what does this say about our intelligence and why would they release information about a failed attempt? >> it says that it is not perfect. they obviously made some mistakes but the gross error in judgment was releasing it. now it insures that we will not be able to do hostage rescue attempt in the future and we would put our troops, special operations forces that do this at great risk. there was no value added to release this. it was poor judgment up to the president. >> strategically how can we strike back? what do we do next? >> we have to have a very extensive air campaign. all we have done to date are pinpricks. we have hit about 100 targets plus or minus where we ought to be hitting 100 targets a day to 200 targets a day to go directly in isis to destroy their command and control. nothing should move from syria right up to 18 miles short of mosul, excuse me, of ardol awhee the isis front lines are. and we should go into

lieutenant general tom mcinerney is with me now, what should the mission be? >> the mission should be to destroy isis, or isil or is. let's have a 30-day air campaign, 200 targets a die, 24-7. and i assure you there won't be much left of isis. we seem to be very reluctant. i disagree with andy that it's our problem, it's part of the middle east problem. and clearly they have the indigenous forces on the ground that can support that air campaign. but as people remember in desert storm, we had a 38 hour -- 38-day air campaign, and there was a 100 hour ground campaign. when we went in against saddam hussein in operation iraqi freedom, we had a simultaneous air and ground campaign and we still defeated a far more formidable force than isis is today in 23 days. >> there's not much question that we could, that our military could do it to -- could take isis out if they are given the order to do it? the question i ask you, is the same one i asked andy, you mentioned desert storm under president george bush the elder. especially on the left, there are people who believ
