every week as women enter the clinic to receive reproductive healthcare services, they must pass by several protestors who scream don't kill your baby or abortions cause breast cancer. the 8 foot tall posters contain pictures of bloody fetuses at different stages of gestation and faces like repent or burn. oftentimes religious music is playing on the radio they have and then the protestors have video cameras facing the front door of the clinic to videotape the women and staff as they're going in. in addition to the protestors, women often have to walk by counter protestors, usually neighbors or pedestrians who mean well and who engage in arguments with these protestors. the arguments are often loud and heated directly in front of the clinic and again, these are well intentioned individuals who usually disagree with the protestors and believe strongly in the right of women to choose for themselves, but these arguments and the yelling, counter protestors are often very difficult for the patients. they cause them a great deal of stress as they wait for sensitive medical procedures to be comple

the north carolina house passed a 14-page vote i.d. bill in april of 2013.t was a relatively strict voter i.d. bill, but it wasn't the strictest in the country. then a month after the shelby county decision, that 14-page bill becomes a 57-page bill that essentially either repeals or curtails every voting reform in north carolina that made it easier for people to vote. so then that voter i.d. law becomes much, much stricter, as strict as texas. they're cutting early voting. they're eliminating same day registration. they're doing all these things. and they did it, as they said, because they no longer had to deal with the quote-unquote headache of having to approve their voting changes with the federal government. so texas and north carolina are really case studies of what's happens in this post-shelby era. >> talk about early voting. what's the argument against it? >> well, i think there's two arguments against it. one argument that has been made is that it's too expensive to allow early voting, that you can't have extended hours because that means that elect
