we begin with nbc bay area's scott budman who's been following our story. >> reporter: both suspects, a man and a woman, were said to be heavily armed. they are in custody tonight after allegedly shooting and killing two sheriff's deputies. one from sacramento county, one from placer county. they're also accused of shooting a third deputy and a sillian before leading officers on a multi-county chase. the sacramento deputy has been identified as 47-year-old danny oliver, a 15-year veteran of the force, shot and killed while investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle outside a sacramento motel 6. investigators say the suspects fled, carjacked another vehicle, and headed for placer county where they shot and killed one placer county deputy and injured another deputy along with a civilian. as the search went on, police also evacuated nearby placer high school as a precaution. >> to the men and women in the sheriff's department, we l

our business and tech reporter scott budman is in san jose at one gas station that's down to $2.94 a gallon. scott, why the low prices? how long will this last? >> reporter: yes, several reasons why, raj. i'll tell you, gas has been falling regularly. it is down by about 60 cents a gallon over the last six months. here on mckee road in san jose, we've got gas now below $3 a gal left hand f gallon, a big savings just in time for your holiday shopping. we're still driving a lot. but we're paying less at the pump. according to the lundberg survey, 18 cents less over the last two weeks. gas, now hitting its lowest levels per gallon in almost four years. >> yeah, it's quite a bit of savings. especially since i drive a bmw. >> reporter: that savings is putting more money back into our pockets just in time for holiday shopping. >> people are not going to feel as bad about getting that new iphone or maybe being a little more liberal when they start doing their holiday shopping. >> reporter: over the last four months, oil supply has gone up while demand has dropped. that's brought the price of

our business and tech reporter scott budman is here with reaction to the big drop. scott, should we be worried? >> no we shouldn't, janelle. we've had many days like this in the past. and we've always recovered that said, as you mentioned, it was a rough day for your money. and in an era where so many of us because of where we put our money are tied directly to wall street, this was a big loss. another triple-digit tumble had investors worried, both on wall street and in tech savvy silicon valley. >> most definitely. it's on a downward spiral right now, right? >> reporter: yes, the market has gone up, and down, and up, and today down 334 points, all in a week. but despite the fact that most of us saw our retirement funds, college funds and mutual funds beaten up, the bay area is resilient. >> i'm an investor in the long haul. i've got my money set. it's in the long haul, not moving. >> reporter: so one day isn't -- >> one day is not going to hurt anything. >> what the stock market does is independent of our business? >> even though you have money in the market? >> ye
