the weather channel's carl parker tracking the big chill. >> this is going to end up being one of the worst lake effect snow events. look at the totals talking about more than five feet of snow there in some areas. 63 inches in lancaster. not far away just four inches. a remarkable gradient. a lot of people still trapped by the snow. we are getting a bit of a break, a bit of a warmup ahead of low pressure coming down. then another area of arctic air will come through. that will mean more lake effect snow in a lot of the same areas tomorrow. that will lift out. we will see a warm up across much of the country. that could lead to flooding or adding rain to the snow. and then another big plunge of arctic air towards wednesday and thanksgiving day, as well. let's talk about the model forecast. here is the lake effect snow band lifting up. a little light snow and then sets up in the very same areas. ongoing problems there especially south of buffalo. by the time it is all said and done we could be taubing about more than six feet of snow in some areas. back to you. >> thank you very much.

november arctic blast hitting large parts of the u.s., here to tell us more is whether channel's carl parker. >>> so looks a lot more like the dead of winter than november right now. look at the snow cover in the country, and half of the nation now covered in snow, of course, that makes cold air colder coming down from canada. it's chilly in the midwest and northeast through midweek, and then we'll see some moderation, those cold temperatures begin to lift out by the weekend, and not bad at all saturday, sunday, and monday for the east, another cold shot behind that, though, moving in towards the holiday. how about snow? light snow now, but that's going to be replaced by very strong west winds coming across the great lakes, and that will set up a tremendous lake effect snow band. talking two to three feet of snow there from buffalo and on southward, very difficult travel and blizzard conditions, hvp snow on the way for western michigan, could be double digits from grand rapids to benton harbor and kalamazoo. back to you. >> two feet in buffalo. >>> might be wondering where sue is? trying to

here is the weather channel's carl parker. >> this winter has been a real boon for industries related to cold and winter. take a look at the amazing snow in western new york. this is near buffalo. we have had four feet of snow already and we could be talking about six feet by the time it is all said and done. but in a very narrow area south of buffalo in buffalo itself only a few inches of snow thus far. there is a look at the snowfall forecast going forward. really heavy coming off of lakes eerie and ontario. another couple of feet expected and double digit snowfall in western parts of michigan. we have the first big polar air invasion over the lakes and the northeast. that will lift out another littler one will come in thursday, friday and then it actually gets very mild across a lot of the country over the weekend but that's not going to last. another block of cold will come down thanksgiving week through the lakes and into the northeast. back to you. >> thank you very much. >>> on wall street right now we are at session highs for the dow jones industrial average. we are up 47 poin
