abc7 news reporter lilian kim is there live with the story. lilian? >> reporter: katie, this is as close as we are allowed to get. the fire captain says these walls could collapse at anytime. a sad day for those who have been going to this church for decades. it took only minutes for a century's old church to be a raging inferno. he just locked the doors. 1:00 mass had ended. >> in five minutes you could see the smoke and then went inside and could see the fire. >> it didn't take long before they realized there was nothing they could do. the fire burned through the roof and parts chapsed. collapsed. >> tried to distinguish the fire and went off from an offensive strategy to a defensive. >> the church was built in 1920 and firefighters say all of that heavy timber was a big reason why the flames spread as quickly as they did. investigators are now looking into should you the fire started. witnesses say they saw smoke coming out of the pipe work and on the balcony. >> i left my trunk open and ran over here. >> parishioners who live nearby watched in hor
