liz. >>> a big day out in florida has finally happened. nasa successfully launched the orion spaceship this morning after several delays yesterday. kpix 5's ryan takeo like much of us has been tracking the deep space capsule launch. ryan, good morning. >> that's right. no scrub launch today. all systems go. >> reporter: the orion spacecraft is on the way to orbit. it's a new era of human exploration leading ultimately to mars. >> 3, 2, 1 -- liftoff. >> reporter: there it goes. taking off from cape canaveral just about an hour ago. this was the second attempt to launch the unmanned ship. high winds and technical problems forced nasa to postpone the take-off yesterday. this is just a test flight. the capsule is going to carry people to destinations like the asteroids, the moon and mars. orion's debut today will be brief just 4.5 hours from launch to splashdown with two orbits of earth. for the first time in 42 years nasa is sending a spacecraft built for humans further than 200 miles from university. the previous time was the apollo 17 moon shot. and it's nasa's first new spaceship since the shuttle. nasa ames put a big role in developing and pr

liz. there's a huge hole in a san francisco neighborhood as the storm swallowed up part of a street there. take a look. it's at lake street at sixth avenue. ryan takeo is on the scene in the richmond district with more. >> reporter: hey frank, the work starts at 7:00. they have had a couple of crews from the city a crew here from the city keeping an eye on this overnight, basically babysitting. this is the problem water pipe. it's more than a century old. and it's one of the main reasons why this sinkhole swallowed up a chunk of the street.
