i want to head to little havana in the city of miami, florida. alina machado has been talking to some people there. what are they telling you? >> i think for the most part people a r happy alan gross is free. regardless of who you ask and how they feel about the other things, they're pleased by that. but in talking to cubans here, particularly the older generations, they're very disappointed. they're angry by the fact that the united states is going to be swapping these three prisoners with cuba. they're also very upset about the easing of restrictions, economic restrictions. this is something that for this generation, for the people who came here in the 50s and '60s is a big, big deal. there's a long history of hurt, of families who went through a lot when they left cuba and then came here and never returned to the island, leafing behind their families belongings, everything they knew because of the castro government. so you can imagine for people like that who hears about these changes, it's not a good thing for them. they feel the u.s. governm

we talked to four of them, karen freeman-wilson of gary, indiana, carlos gimenez of miami-dade, florida, ed murray of seattle and lester taylor of east orange, new jersey. tell me why a perfectly law- abiding and reasonable african american man feels a chill when he encounters a white police officer. why does that happen? >> look at the experiences of a 40-year-old african american man. whether i'm wearing a suit, whether i'm wearing my timberland boots, there's a perception in many of our communities across the country that african americans may be criminals. that's something we have to dispel across racial lines. >> pelley: let me ask you this question, these altercations with police officers that have caused this national debate, how much of this is a lack of respect for the police? >> you have to look at not just an alleged lack of respect for police, but again, lack of sensitivity of law enforcement with the community they serve. >> i think it's too easy to say it's the fault of the police officers. i actually think it's the fault of systems and leaders who are not addressing issue
