it is an honor for me to introduce our special guest today, admiral cecil d. haney. admiral haney assumed command of the united states strategic command in november 2013 after serving as the commander of the u.s.-specific fleet. with the course of his 35-year-long service in uniform he's built a distinguished and decorated career in the navy. he has also served as a congressional appropriations liaison officer for the office of the secretary of defense. admiral haney comes into this with a depth of experience and had previously seshdrved as a deputy commander combined with a breath of regional experience as the civil fleet commander and illus illustrative background. he has an appreciation of the problems we face as a nation as well as the resources for strategy. admiral, we're very proud and pleased to have you here today. please join me in welcoming admiral haney to the stage.
