we bring in the experts, neil hennessey, hennessey funds portfolio manage and chip by january coe.what's your market theory right now? the markets today are relatively flat, but those headlines gyrate all kinds of exciting investments. it looks like plain old mid caps are looking good? >> yeah, based on what you said at the top. large cap companies, by the measurements -- 45%, 45% of their revenues come from overseas -- we have a surging dollar right now, and that's not good for them. and a lot of the large cap companies, look no further than caterpillar, have been struggling because they're selling into markets with weakening currencies, so they keep translating back ever less sums of money. mid cap companies don't have that impediment, and they seem to have been doing relatively better in the era of a surging dollar. liz: neil, your fund, and you've got a bunch of them, that's actually outperformed the mid cap benchmark but underperformed the s&p 500. are you still fighting the good fight? >> yes. i mean, if you look at the market, liz,overall, i think we're in good shape. especi

we're back with mark newton, neil hennessey and tracy byrnes.k, looking at the charts here, not only did we see a pretty significant five 1/2-year low overnight. down 12%, a, what is going on, b, how do you profit from it? >> i think copper is showing us exactly what global growth concerns are indicated be for the last few months and things get worse and worse with regards to the global economy. copper breaking the lowest level since 2011. if you look at longer term trend on generic copper charts. i'm a little bit concerned. i think it has gotten a little bit stretched, down 10% over past four trading sessions. you might stablize a little bit. if dollar shows signs of peaking out that should lift industrial metals and base metals and copper should lift a bit based on that. broader problem for copper hitting new lows coinciding with all the growth expectations. >> economic issue. copper is used in big industrial project, construction. tracy, just as there is aggressive selling in copper, suddenly the chinese government will do, as we've seen in t

hennessey. what role can assistant firefighters grant program play in helping communities prepare for the threat of wildfires? that was my only question. >> you know, that program has been hugely beneficial. not only for large fire departments but also the smaller and volunteer fire departments. not only by ways of creating grant opportunities for fire equipment but also training. the fire act grant benefited not only our agencies but agencies all over the country in providing a wealth of equipment that we would not be able to afford on our own. the safer grant, which is a staffing grant also assists fire department grants, much needed staffing for large and small departments. so, that program has been hushlly beneficial and just in california alone, there is a number of training programs that would not have been possible had that grant funding not been available. so we appreciate the opportunity for those grants. >> thank you, chairman, i yield back. >> before closing, i have one final question

brian pierce from hennessey fund will tell us how to profit from increased consumer spending a joining us phil flynn and dan stesich. dan, we begin with you. the oil continues to be story. >> absolutely right. the price of oil has been hit so hard but what i have to look at net effect what oil is going to do and i think in the long run i think it will be very good for the economy. right now a lot of people are a little bit scared not only of oil but stocks themselves. they're looking for the opportunity to take some profits of things they have had on over the course of the year. this gives them a great opportunity to do so. i don't think this is big issue in the long run. you might have to ride it out a little longer but probably good opportunity to buy stock in here. adam: brian is this good for the economy short term or long term because oil prices eventually will go up, are they not? >> i don't know. i don't see the catalyst to turn them around really quickly. i heard people talk about back up into the 70s or 80s. we have great increase in income to the middle consumers. i think tho

. >> it looks like hennessey to me. asset management has $30 billion in funds. were you dividend?s. >> that's not a term you hear a lot. dividend plays? did i mumble that? >> i've got you in my ear. so it's disconcerting. >> did you sell those or are you still holding them? >> we sold two of them. canadian oil sands and we sold -- >> probably a good idea. >> the other oil company as well. >> what are your new ones? >> bpp and telestar. it's interesting to try to come on a program like this. we're essentially all about the underlying process and how the portfolio is held for us. it's not that we're really excited about swiss occurrence. it's the fact that it's one of the cheapest stocks in our large stock universe. financially strong. so we're looking for the underlying process rather than at names in particular. and so, you know, for quant to pick just three names is challenging. what we're going after is how will the overall portfolio do? we think one of the structural problems with the money management industry is that we're always looking at today or this month or this quarter.
