[applause] but i am also here to tell you that the democratic party has lost its way. we have always been the party of the people, by the people, and for the people. i purposely use the words of the very first republican president of the united states, a great kentuckian, abraham lincoln. if he were here with us today he would be disappointed in what his party has become that he would be reregistering a democrat. [applause] democrats have always been the party that believed deepest in and fought hardest to protect the economic and political well-being of all americans. thanks to our efforts, the dream of a better life has been both visible and reachable for workers

beshear has been visiting schools with issues and working with them on the pick up and drop off procedures and just to talk about betty carmichael which i like to think of a success story. it's surrounded by arterials. it has a lot of bridge traffic and high walking mode share, greater than 30%. it has projects in the works and many years away so we worked closely with supervisor kim's office and school staff to put in a interval at seventh and folsom and did signal adjustment for more time to cross and put in signs and -- we have traffic calming procedure in place for norby sherman alley and another one that supervisor kim mentioned is gene parker and this is a school along a large arterial on broadway and the entrance to the tunnel. the safe route of schools program was merged and this is what it looks like today and this is what we are hoping it will look like very soon. we will have new landscape, new curbs, new ramps, new islands to make it safer for everyone in the community. thank you very much. there's my contact information. >> commissioner mendoza. supervisor campos. >> thank you

in kentucky, you've had steve beshear, outgoing democrat governor. pretty popular.y handily in 2011. democrats have hit a unity. press conference last week. now you have a republican primary, the first television ads of 2015 are running. the kentuckyians were bombarded with that stuff senate race. now they're getting bombarded again already. how nervous are you about the republican primary there making it harder to pick up that seat? >> kentucky is an interesting state. i think romney won by eight or ten there. it wasn't a squeak. and yet kentucky is really controlled the governors mansion except for the few years. it is a state where it's kind of the anomaly of states in that region. >> like tennessee used to be. >> exactly. yeah. that's probably fair. and so, you know, when you talk to the mitch mcconnells of the world, they go well, we want to do what you all did in terms of flipping the state house. i don't think primaries are bad. i ran in a competitive -- in '10, i ran a competitive primary against our lieutenant governor and a sitting congressman, who is very
