i saw eric schmidt yesterday and he spoke cautiously and boast initially about that early investment in uber. what do you think google has learned about the uber business? >> it really is an exciting time and i got the chance to speak to uber at m.i.t.. they were getting an academic perspective on self driving cars. it is clear part of the excitement here is all the data uber has. they can map new york city dynamically every five minutes. so there's a dynamic play between getting and using data to better understand the transportation system and get more efficiency out of it. >> the data is the thing that brings these two companies together. i don't think uber as seen as much of a data company as it is. is there more to it than uber's interest in the self driving car? >> the google project, none of us can predict the future and i see a lot of the challenges that makes things harder like interacting with people and dealing with traffic cops and snow. the timeline google has set is so aggressive and hoping to roll something out, so i think it is something that could disrupt the uber mod

it's drawing a lot of comparisons to when eric schmidt was on apple's board until 2009.you think there's a conflict of interest? >> well, if google truly is going after uber, yes there's a conflict of interest. as you pointed out, eric schmidt on apple's board, when apple was having having a smart phone and google about to have a smartphone, the long and short of it is silicon valley is a complex, interrelated place and there's not a lot of bright lines there and hard lines. >> but, guy, if you are uber particularly in this situation, don't you have to assume, based on history, and just self-preservation, that there could be some ill intent here? what do you do to protect yourself or would you just give google the benefit of the doubt and say, they're just doing it for their employees, don't worry about it? >> well, i mean obviously we're not privy to private conversations. they're probably having these conversations and i don't think these companies are going to lie to each other, so that's something that we may not know about but they should just ask each other. again,

eric schmidt, chairman of google, recently said that amazon is their biggest rival in search. >> to qualifyhe made the comments during an antitrust meeting. there was an incentive to highlight the competition, obviously. but i think there is some truth to it in this case. the nature of search is changing. if you were to search for an item to buy from an e-commerce search on amazon, you know where the reviews are, you know the category it is in, you know how to select prime or not. you don't need those features. google is doing something interesting. they are taking on this endeavor called google shopping express, which i cannot make the math work. i am waiting for someone in the press to follow around one of these vehicles and add up how many stops. i don't see how it can work. >> and they are also trying to do delivery drones as well. >> don't get me started on drones. i think the drones and the self-driving cars are a distraction to keep the media from talking about the topics we just talked about. >> you are not a fan of it? >> i find the whole drone thing distracting. amazon did it, the
