eileen outside here in rosslyn in front of the studios with our storm chaser. what are you seeing out there? >> all right, doug. lots of sunshine! it looks so nice. i have to say this sun feels good! when you're in the shade, though, it's not as nice. it's 23 degrees here in rosslyn and i'm standing in some of the mounds of snow right by our storm chaser after all the plows that have worked so hard. i kind of want to show you what we're looking. if you were watching earlier this morning we had a lot of roads that were completely snow covered but the sun, the magic of the sun has melted away all of the snow so driving conditions much improved. but i want to show you is see all this slush? notice all this water, the puddles, you can hear it. gross, this is disgusting. but nonetheless, i caution everyone because it's later tonight, after the sun sets a lot of this is going to freeze back over and we'll be in for a lot of ice overnight. now, maybe, kids you're watching and saying am i going to get another snow day tomorrow? i'm not the one that makes the decisions

jacqui is outside right now in rosslyn. jacqui, people getting ready. what should they prepare for? >> they are. they need to prepare to shovel snow. it's always a first time this year. you know doug, we've only had 3.7 inches of snow this season. we've got a snow deficit of more than eight at reagan national. and nearly all that's been required for the most part is a little bit salt to melt off the ice. well, this time around the salt is not going to be so effective because our temperatures are going to be very cold. the snow that we're expecting is going to be a very light powdery fluffy snow because the temperatures will be so cold. so you're going to be using the shovel and the good news out of all of this is it's going to be a lot lighter and easier to shovel than the heavy, wet stuff we've had so far this season. in fact, the snow that we're expecting may be four times lighter than your typical snow as a result of this. for the first time you might see us pulling out these snow blowers. you're talking four to eight easy across metro area and seven to 10 plus in the areas to th

here in rosslyn, high level clouds moving that you don't see anything moving and the potomac river pretty much frozen over. a little bit of an undercurrent and still thin ice. the extreme cold has had and the closer we get to sunset that just happened a minute ago we'll see temperatures really plummet tonight and therefore, a little refreeze is possible. just a little smattering of snowfall reports close to six inches in warrenton. seven inches in fredricksburg and king george. 4.7 at reagan national airport. temperatures in the 20's now across the area. 29 at reagan national airport. as we head through the overnight, those numbers will dip 10 to 17 degrees with clear skies and light wind and with that comes thetation there will be icy patches anywhere where the water did not evaporate today. where the sun did not dry it up that is going to be an issue late tonight and through the overnight, tomorrow morning as well. it's another strong cold front accompanied by snow bands or snow showers. could be heavy, could limit visibility and complicate the middle or tail end of tomorrow's rush hour

. >> our brianne carter is live at the rosslyn metro station now with reaction. brianne? >> alison a lot of reaction here at this station to the fact that riders are not going to have to put anymore money on these, their fare cards, to be able to do this. go right through the station here and end up on the other side not paying anymore. the other option too they are not going to see any service cuts to rail or bus. this coming from the metro board of directors late this afternoon. talking to riders here. many saying they were concerned about just how pricey it would be and how much reduction they could see in terms of their daily commute and the service. but again tonight, we have learned from the metro board of directors, they have voted that they are not going to increase those fares as of now and that they are not going to make any service cuts to balance that budget. meanwhile, they say the final budget cut will come in the springs, the board's action reflects the continued commitment to reduce administrative cost and reprogram money from nonsafety programs and signal
