san francisco. a shortage for glass for the windows on all of those skyscrapers. lyanne melendez joins us to tell us why. >> reporter: larry, any time there are problems at the ports, you know you're going to have delays in getting what's inside those containers, and that's exactly what has happened here. when you think about it, larry, these ports along the entire west coast including the port of oakland and of course those in southern california they all represent about 40% of u.s. international trade. who knew a labor dispute at the ports would have an impact on the construction of a few high rises in downtown san francisco. take 399 fremont seen here from sky 7 hd. today builders worked on finally installing their glass systems after weeks of waiting for them to arrive from china. the dispute over a new contract for dock workers caused serious delays. the worst months were january and remember when on average 20 ships were waiting at the port of oakland. now that an agreement has been reached, things are slowly improving, but the backlog is still bad in southern california. >
