these dogs about 60 of them will escape that fate because of the san francisco spca. the dogs were rescued from a meat farm after the owner was persuaded to quit raising dogs for food and grow chilies instead. most of the dogs are of the mastiff breed. half of them were puppies who warmed up to rescuers than some of the older dogs. some of the older dogs were so afraid they had to be carried out of their crates. the reason is that they spend their lives in crates like these, in markets, until somebody buys them. >> you can see the guy pick up the electrocution stick, you can hear the dogs screaming. >> he says he wishes that they could have saved more dogs. about 2 million dogs are killed in south korea every year for their meat. the spca says that some of the dogs are getting medical care and all of them will be evaluated for their behavior before they are put up for adoption. some could be ready for their new homes within the next month or so, but by the way, this is not an illegal practice in south korea. it's not illegal to raise or to buy dog meat. it's just a gr

san francisco. the staff at the san francisco spca is now tasked with assessing the health of the animals. >> many ofe confident that most of them can accept and live happily in the bay area. >> the spca says the dogs could be available for adoption possible as early as next week. the spca facilities in san francisco, oakland and sacramento will have the dogs as well ass marin county humane society. the humane society international rescued 23 dogs back in january from another south korean dog meat farm. the organization said that farmer is now growing blueberries and the farm that these dogs recently were rescued from the humane society international says that farmer who is looking to get out of the trade is looking to grow chiles. >> it sounds like they want to be out of this trade. >> this trade exactly. it's the older generation that continues to use the dog for this reason for consumption and the younger generation is going in the other direction. so there is a movement in south korea to stop it. >> and i don't think these dogs are going to have a hard time finding a good time here. >> they're gr

san francisco over the past decade. her home wasn't always a kitten sanctuary, though. like the animals she cares for, tony's rescue efforts started small. >> i was asking a nice calm volunteer at spcayears ago. i sat at the desk. everything was great. i guess my cat died and they said, do you want to foster. i took home a momma kitten. >> it wasn't so well tony did it again. again. and there is now nothing calm about tony's volunteer life. everyday during kitten season you can find tony at san francisco's animal care and control. >> oh, my god, you got a mess. >> on this day, more than a dozen feral kittens are brought in. tony helps them get the baths they need. the shots they require. >> they look like they are all about the same weight. >> even eventually the foster homes they deserve. it should said in many if not most other parts of the state, and the country, kittens less than eight weeks old get none of those things. >> most shelters don't take neonates. >> tony puts in an amazing amount of work. especially considering she gets paid absolutely nothing for the effort. well not paid in any currency other than cuteness. >> i just love it. >> thank you so much for joining us. ca
