let's go live to nbc's tracie potts in washington. tracie we're hearing the prisoner's gun belonged to a security guard. >> exactly. local police hired private security to watch him. he was in a local jail on federal armed robbery charges. we're now learning from the police department he tried to hurt himself. they took him to the hospital. at some point he overpowered that guard, took his gun and fled with no shoes and appear hospital gown. this has been going on for several hours now. residents in the area getting 911 calls, reverse 911 calls urging them to be on the lookout. it's not clear if he's in or around the hospital or escaped into the neighborhood. obviously a very dangerous situation. initially we were told there were shots fired. we know now from police shots were fired. it's not clear if it was from this escaped suspect or if it was from police shooting at him. we do have a little more information now about his background as well from police this morning. as i told you, he was in on an armed robbery charge. apparently acc

tracie potts is live in washington. what are the risks here for the u.s. in this war? >> oil and security. two big issues here in the united states. let's start with oil, dara. we've already seen prices per barrel go down $1 since those saudi air strikes. they have been creeping up. the concern is if yemen's government falls in that oil-rich region we could feel it at the pump. the other thing is security. yemen has been a big partner with the united states fighting al qaeda's strongest affiliate, al qaeda in yemen. again, if that government falls that could put that fight at risk against al qaeda in that region. now, it looks like the saudis have about ten nations on board this coalition to try to back those rebels out of that country. the rebels are backed by iran so it's sort of a saudi arabia versus iran situation there, which puts the u.s. in an interesting situation because while we are at odds with iran when it comes to a number of things also sitting down at the negotiating table trying to work out this nuclear deal next week is the deadline. >> tracie potts in

tracie potts, nbc news washington. >>> breaking news now out of indiana. a live look at the scene of a tour bus crash on interstate 65. this is in clark county indiana, southern indiana there. this is a wide view of the crash scene. hard to make out exactly where the tour bus is among the mess there. we don't have control of the camera on this helicopt so you'll forgive us if the camera moves from time to time. as we zoom in here you can see more about the scene. this is interstate 65. it heads up through indianapolis on the way to chicago. we have seen a medical helicopter arrive there on scene. you can see that parked in the lane of traffic. looks like it is lifting off now. no word yet though on the number of injuries where that bus was headed. we know this happened near the 22 mile marker on i-65. if you're at all familiar with that interstate there, through indiana. and dispatchers have said that this was not a school bus. so we know it wasn't a school bus. it may have been a tour bus. we'll continue to monitor the information coming out of indiana th
