alex savidge is also at the scene this morning. alex, they still looking for the driver? >> reporter: they are still look for the driver. as far as the child goes, we want to point out here the child was in a car seat we understand and was not transported to the hospital. so that is the good news out here. a lot of damage done at the end of this pursuit when that car crashed into two power poles and you can see the streets still blocked off here as pg&e crews do repair work on those poles. after the driver lost control of that car, he got out and ran off leaving behind a young child in the car. chp officers came in and searched the area for the driver but he does remain on the run this morning. thousand this pursuit began just after 2:00 this morning when chp officers pulled this mans car over on 880. the driver initially stopped but then sped off and eventually lost control and crashed. now it's unclear what sort of violation the man was stopped for or why he ran. the chp has been in touch with the child's mother and they are making arrangements to return that child to h

alex savidge is near the scene. alex, what is it like out there right now?hings look pretty good. traffic flowing freely this morning. the morning crash had the potential to do a lot of damage to the morning commute. but the chp really took care of the crash. realtively quickly. all things considered. and this morning this is the result. the cars that are heading away from you, that is traffic going northbound on 880 just north of davis street. that is where not so long ago traffic was at a standstill. there was a freeway closure in effect. all the lanes shut down because of this firey crash. 7 cars involved in a chain reaction crash. and according to the alameda county fire department, there were a total of five people that were hurt out here in this accident. one of them critically. a cal tran crew came in and closed the freeway. traffic was diverted off of 880 at davis street for a time. but again that closure lasted just about two hours and just about an hour and a half ago somewhere in that range is when the freeway reopened to traffic. the chp says the

the open san leandro border it happened about just an hour ago and ktvu alex savidge is there live with the latest. >>reporter: good morning. a huge mess out here for early- morning commuters in the east bay. take a look behind us. northbound lanes, all of them of 880 are shut down this morning. this is just north of davis street here in san leandro. you can see traffic is simply at a standstill right now. as we push down here, you can see all those flashing lights. those are the first responders dealing with this multicar crash. a chain reaction crash involving a total of seven cars. for some video from a short time ago. we understand one of those cars burst into flames this morning. we also do understand that at least one person had to be freed from a car. that was involved in this crash. had to be freed with the jaws of life by first responders. several people have been injured out here. we do understand, but the chp has not been able to tell us the severity of those injuries this morning.

ktvu's reporter alex savidge live on the scene, this has brought out the chief of police. >> reporter: the chief was down here a short time ago. i had a chance to speak with him and a sense of relief because he confirmed no police officers were injured in the shooting late last night. he tells me someone, three men opened fire on to undercover officers last night. two of those men have been taken into custody, a third remains outstanding. that's what you see the police presidents out here this morning. we're at the section of 55th ave. and foothill boulevard. as you can see, quite a few police officers are out here we've also seen members of s.w.a.t. out here as well. they are searching for one man sought to be armed, in his 20s. again, he is thought to be armed and obviously believed to be quite dangerous given the circumstances. the chief tells me this all began with a homicide investigation last night on the 1400 block of 90th ave. he tells me there were to undercover detectives who are in that area working follow-up on a homicide investigation, that's when someone opened fire on t
