let's bring in art cashin director of floor operations with ubs. still greasedece for you? >> greece remains in the background. things calmed down in china. i think it's going to be a long drama. i suspect we will play it through the end of this week which is one standard but as i discussed yesterday with simon, the idea that if they default, it's not an immediate event. that it's a brief honeymoon of a couple of months which you might see a change in governments. that having been said greek bond yields are way back at a big high. not since we've seen 29% back in 2012, i think. >> you point out the fact this stock market has been in such a tight range for such a long time. 75 trading days up 0.7%. how long is it since we had a 2% move? 80 days. what does that mean? is that a market that's struggling to go higher? is it the calm before the storm? are we consolidating to rally? what is going on here? >> that's the $64,000 question. $64 million in today 's dollar. the point being it does look like the market is somewhat indecisive. that's exemplified by the fact you get a 20 p

let's bring in art cashin. good morning to you. people are still wondering about friday whether it was another test where retail investors bought the dip? >> they certainly did. the figures indicate that retail was a better buyer than seller. i think the selling may have come from at least part of it from europe because it continued on. you know when you can't sell what you want where you want to sell it the german marks was down the equivalent of 400 some-on points. but we had that combination, kind of a mixed blessen out of china, cutting the reserve requirements. their markets were closed when they sit down margin trading. they were still closed when they changed the reserve requirements. the combination of twot let to a somewhat softer trade. they had been off 4% or 5% before they changed the reserve requirements. so we've got a mixed picture here. i would look to early resistance in the s&p, up around 2094 2098 and see where we go. it's hard to believe after all these twists and turns, the dow is flat for the year. here we are

let's get art cashin's opinion who joins us here at post nine.d morning. >> good morning. >> got some fires burning today what's the top of the list? >> i think the probably the media reports that greek banks have been told to sell their sovereign debt if that is so things could heat up pretty fast. right behind it is china's move on margins and increasing the amount of stocks that can be shorted. that was a surprise after they closed and it knocked the futures down about 5% at one point. then simply the fact that you had that disruption with the bloomberg terminals. that has kind of an unsettling flash crash kind of response among traders. you put all those three together and that's why you are seeing markets around the globe doing what they are doing. >> on greece we keep making this round trip right? concerns get acute, they push it back or settle something. they push it into april, may, what have you. how damaging would it be if we got into the living room the fire got into the living room so to speak? >> i think there is some concern this ti

i know that's something that art cashin has talked about on the floor.00 ceiling going back a couple of months. i was someone who thought not the employment report but earnings season would be a driver if you will of stocks to break out of this range at least one way or the other. thus far with nearly 100 companies having reported this morning, that has not been the case. i find that shocking because narratives are starting to emerge. >> is that because the top line the revenue growth isn't there, kayla? >> you're seeing revenue declining. that was exacted because of where we saw gdp come in a lot of the data in the first quarter. i don't think anyone expected the first quarter to be a belowout by any stretch of the imagination for any sector. it is interesting when you look at the tech sector. some of the breakouts, amazon yahoo! was positive for much of the day until about the last hour of trade. facebook also was having a stellar day. these are names that traders are saying they're buying because they don't necessarily want to not have more of them in

i think arthur cashin had it right when he said this market is like a hamster on a wheel a lot of movement but not going anywhere right now. >> absolutely not. we've been talking about it for a couple weeks. we've been stuck in this trading range, boups range, bouncing off the highs and the support system. the market and investors are digesting these earnings which are not nearly as bad as they led us to believe. 80% beat lowered estimates. 48% of them are growing revenues. investors seem to be okay with it. the geopolitical world at the moment seems to be quiet. greece good another emergency funding there. that's okay for a couple of days. until something happens, i think it will be tough for the market to break out or break down. >> nancy, what are you buying here? >> last time i was on i talked about technology and that has been a bright spot. >> right. >> and you can continue to see valuation trumping growth. i think an interesting story for today is chipotle versus mcdonald's. one company is a great grower and the other is not growing anything and it's up 3% to 6%. i think we're in a
