disabilities. that lawsuit finally concluded with an order to close that institution. the condition in that institution, like many all over the country, was really inadequate. the services were poor the conditions people lived in were poor. it really was not a way to segregate and put people with intellectual and developmental disabilities away from your community. so it finally closed in 1991. people moved spot community, into small homes throughout washington, d.c. unfortunately the quality never met standards in that court order and subsequent sellingment agreements that were crafted, so the case never ended. now it's 39 years old. it is the oldest class action in the united states but we're happy to say that after many years of really hard work that we are approaching the end of the case. we've met 66 out of 70 exit criteria. and the real story about that is that really people's lives we're supporting throughout the city have really improved in a substantial way and there's just been significan

we met with the mayor's office on disability and the mayor's disability on council were in attendance as well and members of the public. these were some of the highlights from that meeting. we had a presentation by brenda mass skin and dr. nerven from the homeless outreach team which we usually abbreviate as the hot team. the hot team is a program with the department of public health. the hot teams role is to assist people with disabilities during a disaster. brenda and dr. neville started to address the hot teams mission and by reconstructing service. the hot team is a group who would address everything about the homeless including medical intervention, when someone was ill on the streets. intervention case management and transportation to shelters and health care and transition to supportive housing to stabilization rooms. under the new reconstruction, the hot team now focuses on the highest users of emergency services. and the people who are the most vulnerable. this is only a subset of the homeless population as a whole. important to keep on training shelters workers to help them

people with disabilities. women, others, not willing to be out in the street in the middle of the neat -- night to get a shelter bed reservation. however many people call that day, that is lottery and you indicate which one you want to stay on. we didn't know how many people wanted beds and didn't know how many people would stay and this is a problem for us that have problems. speaking rapidly we don't have bunks. there is never an issue with someone getting assigned a top bunk k which they are not able to access. many of the clients have told me that they have been treated very well by the staff and very respectfully and it's been a big help. one of the things they did by identifying how many women wanted shelter not accessed through a live system and we opened for the first time an emergency winter shelter for women. for 25 years, the loma prieta the san francisco winter council has had a shelter that moved during the winter months. i was going to say the wet months but cold. what we are table do is the gold

many uses it to operate bart chooses not to and instead for disability initiatives. this is to address the latest codes or make some improvements. for example recently we up grated our fire alarms which is just a sounding fire alarm to a flashing fire alarm so if you are deaf or hard of hearing you are alerted that something is going wrong also. we are also working to try out a video relay system for deaf passengers so it's basically skype with an asl interpreter so if a passenger needs to communicate with a station agent and needs assistance, this is something we are trying to do. we are also making some improvements to closing the timing of the elevator closing and opening. we are also, i'm going to be replacing the floors of all the elevators. right now unfortunately they are used for other purposes besides transportation. it's an isolated, an area where people can be by themselves and people have used it for unfortunately for restroom purposes. the smell, we can't clean it out. unfortunately it's people's only access to bart. so what we are doing now is we are ma
