growing up with my dad, he is a vietnam veteran who served two tours in vietnam.o wake him up. i always had to call his name. he always told me never to touch him. he never talked much about his experiences, but one day out of the blue, he talked about his experience and about what happened to him during his time there. i do not know why but he always kept his experiences quiet, and one day let it out. i was wondering if the author has any comments on the life experiences of those who have served. on the colin powell doctrine, he has used the vietnam legacy as a basic ideology of not going into the war, but go again with all forces necessary to win the war. if that wasn't the case, then he wasn't on board with it, and i think bush gave him the authorization to do that. i think we were successful with the overwhelming force, but that particular strategy has not been used in subsequent encounters with afghanistan or isis. i was wondering, if we use that kind of approach that we used in world war ii, could we win the war because of the media coverage? host: i want to

what has been the legacy of vietnam? have we learned our lesson from vietnam? my answer is a few lessons we learned, i've mentioned a few but some we have not. the deceptions on warmaking continue. clearly. all we have to do is look at the iraq war and the deceptions that took place with regard to that. we were driven into the iraq war by deliberate deceptions by the president and his top staff. and that, by the way, in terms of accountability is similar to the vietnam war. there has been a total refusal to hold anyone accountable, not only to hold anyone accountable, but even to know the facts. there has been no investigation by the united states of the decision to go to war in iraq. by the way, little netherlands had a big inquiry. they appointed a former chief justice of the supreme court to take a look at how it happened that the netherlands went to war. they found, by the way, lying by the prime minister to the parliament. some of the same things that happened here, but they exposed it. we have done nothing. ok, we still have presidential overreaching with
