chester chester county. "action news" reporter erin o'hearn is live at the big board. she's got the overnight details. good morning erin. >> reporter: good morning, tam. chopper six gives you the best perspective on how intense this fire was. flames erupted around 9 o'clock in west chester which is mostly officers but the red cross has told us that there are four apartments and it is assisting one person. now, initially fire officials responded with two alarms but the blaze spread quickly and then that was up to three alarms. now, let's take a look at some ground video. as you can see, there were multiple crews on the ground at the corner of market street and north church street. this is a stubborn fire and it affected multiple buildings. the scene was a block away from the chester county courthouse. it took almost three hours to get it under control. the word from officials was that at 11:50 firefighters finally got a handle on the blaze. fortunately there were no injuries. again, that is largely attributed to the fact that this building is mostly offices and the fire started around 9:00 so there were --

chester chester county we've got another nasty accident. look that this one. a vehicle ran right off the roadway right through the guardrail into the woods at this point. we've got police all on the scene. this is the ramp from 202 northbound to 322. a new accident just coming in. police out there. we can see some cars getting around off to the side but a vehicle slid right off the roadway, through the median into the woods. roads a little damp and that's not helping things any. we talked about the fact that we had five to 6-inches of rain in parts of south jersey. the flood waters still haven't receded so we've got flooding out here on route 40 harding highway westbound near tuckahoe road blocking the left lane. in chesilhurst it's out here blocking the right lane right on the white horse pike westbound approaching hendricks street. traffic is getting busy right now, tam. >> thank you karen. >>> right now we are starting with a developing story. police are trying to determine if it was a fire bug out there who torched three cars in camden county overnight. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live in pennsauken. >>> she's got the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tam. there are three car fires within blocks of each other all within an hour. they happened in camden and pennsauken. two of the cars have already been towed but we're standing by the third one here on woodland in pennsauken. you can see the tires flat on that mercedes. the fire department and the police were called out to all of these scenes overnight though. in pennsauken the came in around 1:15 this morning, both within minutes. one of them was on woodland avenue by garden. the mercedes was cordoned off. investigators collected evidence they took stock of the damage after putting out those flames. another fire was about a block away from there on the 3900 block of royal avenue and you could see the windows were broken out of the vehicle shattered glass at the street by that honda. not far from there over at garden and highland in camden, word of a third fire came in. there were scorch marks and pieces of the car on the street after it was towed. no injuries were reported in any of these fires and the motive remains under investigation. police want to hear from you if you have any tips on who could be responsible. we're live in pennsauken, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> thanks, katherine. >>> a stray bullet narrowly missed a sleeping baby in delaware. the shot came from the unit block of bedford drive in edgemoor yesterday evening. it struck a crib where a child was asleep. the child was not hurt. outside the home another bullet wounded a man in his 20's. he's in stable condition. new castle county police are looking for two people who ran from the scene. >> happening today, the u.s. house transportation committee will hold a hearing. they're looking into the amtrak derailment in philadelphia that killed eight people. that amtrak train was traveling twice the posted speed limit and derailed on a curve. amtrak will not installed ought matter particular speed controls. the ntsb says those controls could have prevented the crash. a day after the derailment a committee voted to reduce amtrak funding by $251 million in the next fiscal year. >> 6:35 now. social media support is pouring in following a first look at vanity fair's latest cover. it presents a gold medal winning caused some floridaing across the region. cars were creeping along a drenched route 322 and sicklerville road in williamstown gloucester county. in thornbury pa the downpours caused poor visibility. in newark delaware the avon underpass looked a little bit more like a stream when the waters suddenly flooded that road. >> seeing some rain out there right now but nothing heavy. >> no its all light and the flood warnings and watches that we had earlier are now over. so other than blocked storm drains here or there, guys, i think we're in much better say. and as you take a look at storm tracker six live double scan the closeup view showing you everything we have right now across south jersey and the immediate region is highlighted in lighter shades of green so we're looking at just light stuff that's not exacerbating any of the flooding conditions we had earlier. as we take a look outside we are looking at, jumped the gun little bit for you but you'll get those numbers shortly we're looking at cloud cover on sky six in center city and see how it's low obscuring the tops of the center city sky scrapers and occasionally you're seeing some drizzle even where there isn't any active rain on radar. let's get that you number. cool out there this morning, 53 degrees. we started up around 70 yesterday morning so definitely chillier. 51 is your dewpoint. the the air is not all that sticky. winds out of the northeast at 13 miles per hour and despite the fact you have drizzle and light showers around it's kind of refreshing as you step outside. as we take a look at satellite and radar, you can see how there is some drying down to the south and west of us but we are looking at a fair amount of cloud cover and occasionally today there will be another sprinkle or shower coming through. in terms of that rain yesterday we actually set some records on monday. in philadelphia almost 2-inches, a new daily record for yesterday's date. 3.8-inches in wilmington, atlantic city 2.22-inches and again a lot of that water took a long time to settle and get out of here. the hot spot was south jersey right around route 322 south of hammonton where we had 5-inches of rain up to as much as 6-inches in some spots. 5-inches down towards route 55 about halfway down toward millville and 4-inches over by bridgeton so central south jersey the real heavy areas that got hit yesterday. in terms rain the rest of today, nothing that's going to add to any flooding issues. by noon a couple of light sprinkles and showers around that shouldn't last all that long. by 6 o'clock maybe even some brightening of the skies here or there and just a lingering sprinkle and later tonight between 10 and 11 o'clock when adam joseph and cecily tynan are back on the air we may have another shower or two building in but again nothing all that bad. the other part of today's story is the cloud cover and the cooler temperatures. 56 degrees by 11 o'clock. 62 by 2 o'clock. your high today is going to be 63 degrees and we'll hit that at about 3 o'clock this afternoon. high temperatures from north to south looks like low 60's or on or about 60 in the lehigh valley. low 60's in the i-95 corridor and down the shore 62's in cape may and in atlantic city. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast 63 degrees is today's high. scattered showers out there, a bit dry most of the time. the big change is the cooler and cloudy conditions. little breezy today too. and then tomorrow a little damp in the morning. otherwise 68 degrees, mainly cloudy with some sunny breaks and then clouds to sun on thursday, a nice afternoon with a high of 69 degrees there. warmer then on friday, a high of 79 degrees a-spotty thunderstorm is possible. although it's not a washout. little bit more sticky there and then by saturday clouds and sun, a high of 80, slight chance of a spotty thunderstorm on saturday but not a washout. hopefully nice for the union at ppl park at night and back into the 70's on sunday scene creating a jam-up on the blue route northbound from the schuylkill to past the schuylkill much we have fire, ambulance, fire trucks all on the scene so this dump truck offer to the shoulder. vehicle ran right through the guardrail so a nasty accident there in conshohocken. electrical fire on limekiln pack at babylon road. fire police on hand directing traffic at the scene there. another accident that we've watched its kind of hard to see off to the side at this point here. this is in west chester county. right on the ramp from 202 northbound to 322. it's an accident involving a vehicle just slid right off-road way. emergency workers on the scene. the roads are damp and it doesn't take much. accidents of people smashing right through the guardrail. i was checking the waze app here and found a lost people talking about complete stand still in traffic on 295 southbound and here's why. we've got an accident at 168 and one southbound approaching 42. so, two new accidents coming in to us in bellmawr camden county. and the flooding has been a real problem especially in south jersey. route 40 harding highway westbound near tuckahoe road, so flooding still causing a problem there and with the rainfall totals with these radar estimates we can see that south jersey is the real bull's-eye. we've got between four to 6-inches of rain yesterday. so you're still dealing chester county. the area that we're talk about is west chester coatsville, west town, downingtown chester springs valleyorge marshallton, paoli lionville radnor township just to name a few. steve, lets go back in the sensitivity mode and we will look at the radar. look at different colors moving toward and away from the radar toward and away from the radar ande what we call reflectivity and intensity as well. we are indicating some rotation right here and that is where we are picking up, on that doppler radar indicated cell. as it continues to move east. tornado warning in effect once again for central chester county until 5:45 this afternoon. we have a lot of lightening and a lot of rape but real problem is going to be damaging wind associated with this rotating thunderstorm. it is doppler radar indicated but we are talking about wind in excess of 70, 80 miles an hour if this is confirmed but damaging wind for sure in this particular cell. if it continues to move east we're talking about the area impacted mainly chester county moving into parts perhaps of the delaware county and norristown, lower merio

chester with harry harrison live with the latest tonight. what did you find? >> reporter: we have been poking around through some of the back streets and side roads here in west chester and chester county. it has been tough. we have found more and more problems mounting up. this is one that came down earlier today this road full of trees. if you look to the center of the screen you will see what looks like a little black wire. that is a power line. moments ago the workers say they had to leave to check to make sure that that line has not been reenergized. out of abundance of safety they have stopped work here and don't think they will be back at this for at least another hour. they hope to get it cleared sometime just after midnight. >>> philadelphia international airport has lifted the ground stop there but passengers are still dealing with nearly two hour delays for arrivals and departures. amtrak's northeast corridor is up and running. keystone service is suspended between harrisburg and philadelphia. septa is running about an hour behind schedule and power problems force to suspend service. nj transit suspended service in both directions from philly to atlantic city. >>> the

like everyone else not from the area, not wor-cheste wor-chester wor-chester, it is worcester. my editors said i am getting confused keeping track of all these people. focus on these men and the fraternity they formed and use that as a microcosm for when they experience at holy cross and what was being experienced across the country at the time. there were a couple things i tried to be careful not to do. one was tighten the drama too much with a love interest and dialogue. the main thing that was important to me that holy cross was both special and unique but was a microcosm of what was happening in the country at that time. i am not american. i grew up in scotland. i am half catholic but brady is a handy name to have when you're at holy cross. i was born in the late 60s and never fully understood the emotions of the time that the book opens to. it was right after dr. martin luther king has been killed. also father brooks intrigued me as someone who was a pioneer who went out and basically circumvented the admissions process. he was very controversial. those of you who read the

girl who was caught in the cross fire in a shooting in philadelphia. she was sitting on the steps of hero home thursday night. two men were shooting at each other. doctors removed a bullet that went into the girl's right thigh. she's still recovering. police are still looking for the shooters. >>> now your "nbc 10" first alert weather with chief meteorologist glenn hurricane scharts. >> schwartz. >> and we do have a first alert for the rest of the day and into tuesday. showers and thunderstorms, some of them going to be heavy. localized flooding. a lot of moisture in the atmosphere. because the ground has been dry, a lot of rain will wash out and run off and cause more of a flood threat. 70 degrees with some rain right now. philadelphia south southeast at 7 miles an hour. the biggest threat today and tonight and tomorrow is going to be the heavy rain. there could be some strong thunderstorms, but the heavy rain is the main threat that i see for the next 24 to 36 hours. only 60 in allentown. 70 in philadelphia. going to be a big temperature contrast from north to south during the day today. we have flood advisories already in effect over several areas. some expire at 5:00. the one in northern delaware expires at 6:15. localized flooding already. thunderstorms moving through. the heaviest stuff is in delaware right now. over the past few hours we continue to see the rain. philadelphia area and into new jersey. the heavy thunderstorms farther to the south. getting a bit of a lull across a good bit of philadelphia and the northern suburbs, but they're really getting pounded here in new castle county, delaware, and that is going to continue. you can see on the radar estimated rainfall when you see these colors of red and orange that means there is a lot of rain that is already falling. as we go through the morning you're going to see this lull in the activity. future cast here as we go towards late morning doesn't show much of anything but then all of a sudden it explodes around midday with the heating of the day and extremely humid air mass. some of these showers and storms this afternoon are going to be real heavy. give you an idea of how much rain we might get out of this in the next 48 hours is one of the computer models. you can see 1 to 3 inches of rain locally higher amounts and some computer models show even more rain than that. showers and storms during the day today. some of them heavy. temperatures range from 75 in northern sections to 85 in southern sections. and the seven day forecast more rain tomorrow. only 67 degrees and then it's cooled down on wednesday. so a lot of clouds this week, a lot of moisture this week and not nearly as warm as it's been. >>> all right, glenn. 11 minutes after 4:00 right now. if you're driving through the area and you saw some heavy rainfall, prepare for ponding. rushing water, definitely want to watch out for that. "nbc 10's" first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington will tell you what else you should watch out for. jessica. >> first we're taking a check in new jersey on 295 on the black horse pike where you can see a vehicle drive on through. you can see it misting out from underneath and spraying water everywhere. you can see ponding over in the shoulder and even making its way towards the center lanes. slow going in either direction which is definitely a smart thing to do. even though you can see the drive times are being hardly affected, there's not a lot of volume. 14 minutes southbound from 38 up towards the black horse pike at this point. take your time anyway. heading out the door checking the rest of our drive times into the philadelphia area 95 or the schuylkill he can press waykookchuylkill expressway. watching out in west conshohocken for the transformer fire. you can take the schuylkill expressway to get by. we're dealing with up to an hour delay at philadelphia international airport. check it with your airline to see if it affects your commute. >>> today in cape may county a missing child cold case gets some new life. a new tool for police trying to solve a 4:15. funeral services will be held today for the washington d.c. family that was murdered inside their mansion last month. police say the couple, their 10-year-old son and the family's housekeeper were bound, threatened and killed before the house was set on fire. darin wint was charged with the murder. >>> the case of a cape may county child missing for 24 years now is getting new life. the cape may prosecutor's office the middletown police department and the fbi are holding a joint news conference today to announce a partnership for mark himebaugh. he was 11 when he vanished in 1991. >>> today montgomery county we have a warning for anyone living near the nuclear plant in limerick. you can expect to hear sirens going off at 2:00. not to worry, it's just a test and it will only last 3 minutes. it's one of two conducted at that facility every year. >>> also today contractors will study the roof and air ducts of a fire house in atlantic city trying to solve a mold issue making firefighters self. the problem is with fire station number 1 at maryland and atlantic avenues. mold is forming on ceilings and air ducts. the firefighter's unit says crews are experiencing shortness of breath high grains and dry eyes. they closed off the living quarters and have set up tents next to the fire station. >>> police in mount pocono are searching for a person who left a dog for dead. on friday a woman found a dog hog tied to a pole in coolbaugh montgomery county. she's being treated for a severe case of mange. they're dealing with an overwhelming amount of animal abuse cases lately. >>> new jersey is asking for the public to weigh in on a plan to expand the bear hunting season. in march they approved adding a second six-day hunt in october. they would also make that hunting -- the hunting zone bigger and increase the number of bears that people can kill. right now there's only one bear hunt in december. the public can weigh in on this proposal at a hearing tomorrow night in trenton. >>> 4:17 now. 69 degrees. today in trenton some state lawmakers are making a big push to bring gaming to north jersey. they're holding a news conference later today to talk about that. the big talk is over a proposed casino in jersey city. casino gaming has been restricted to atlantic city since the 1970s. since ac is struggling lawmakers are fighting that proposal. >>> atlantic city isn't relying only on casinos. today the meade yes gets a sneak peek at what's called the playground. a redevelopment project set for what was the pier shop at caesars. they will enter one stop shopping in entertainment, dining and shopping. the main focus will be t street which will feature clubs and live music. the playground is expected to open 4th of july weekend. >>> ten people are recovering from some minor injuries this morning after an air conditioner fell several stories in new york city. the unit fell from a crane and crashed onto the ground in manhattan yesterday. it sheared off the side of a 30 story building as it fell. the crane was lifting the unit to the top floor when the cable snapped. eight pedestrians and two construction workers were hit by flying debris but thankfully everyone is okay. wow. >>> and 75 years of racing history was brought crumbling to the ground over the weekend in southern california. the hollywood park racetrack grandstands were cleared to make way for a $2 billion stadium, entertainment and residential complex. that track was built in 1938. it closed two years ago. >>> schools across nepal are back open now after last month's deadly earthquake that killed more than 8600 people. no formal classes were planned when most of the schools went back into session yesterday. students were getting reoriented. officials say around 8,000 schools were damaged during the initial earthquake and subsequent tremors. unicef has built temporary replacement schools by using local material like bamboo. >>> here at home the atlantic hurricane season begins today. forecasters are calling for a below normal season but they're warning everyone along the coast against getting complacent. officials warn it takes landfall from one hurricane to cause disaster as we all know. now is the time to check your homeowner's policy. hurricane season runs to the end of november. >>> nor flooding concerns in texas. dallas specifically after the wettest month there on record in texas. at least 30 people died because of flooding. as the hardest hit areas begin to dry out, some streets that have been closed or are still closed could affect morning traffic in dallas. >>> the national weather service has issued a flash flood watch for north jersey and new york city through 11:00 a.m. this morning. this is associated with the bands of storm that are bringing rain to our area. heavy downpours causing flooding throughout parts of newark yesterday. crews were called in to assist stranded motorists. no reports of injuries there. >>> now your "nbc 10" first alert weather with meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz. >> all of that rain is the reason that we have a first alert that is for the rest of the day and into tomorrow because of those showers and storms with some locally very heavy rain and even flooding in some areas. we already have some flood advisories. that's just the beginning because there's going to be a whole lot more rain before this system moves out. 70 degrees right now. the wind is light out of the south southeast. the temperatures range from 56 in mount pocono to 70 in philadelphia. now we hit 92 degrees yesterday. the first 90 degree temperature and the hottest so far. we're not going to get near that or tomorrow. we continue to see the flood advisories, the one in bucks county and much of the philadelphia corridor. only until 5:00 a.m. in northern delaware. that's until 6:15. that's the area that's really getting hit hard. you can see this pretty obviously on the wide view but you can also see some dryer air coming in from the west. here we are in new castle county the lightning in here. the red and dark red indicating very heavy rain coming through glasgow, delaware newark city. localized flooding with that, no doubt about it. you requestcan see a little bit dryer air around the pennsylvania turnpike. there will be more showers coming through, but there may be a lull which then goes into the afternoon and then things start to pick up again. the showers and storms some of them heavy. 75 for the high in northern sections. 85 in the south. going to be quite a contrast across the area. then for tomorrow it is cool. we have more rain chance of some more localized flooding especially in the morning. then another cool day along wednesday. a lot of clouds this week. degrees in kennett square. mid-50s in washington township. we're at 49 a cold start to the morning in poconos. 57 in reading. 50s in oxford. right along the shore here close to 50 degrees. 58 in millville. and we're seeing the wind speeds moving in from the east. cooler air is going to stick with us today. radar shows a few scattered showers and moving into parts of new castle county. part of this weather disturbance is to the south of us. stray showers moving into the area mainly towards south jersey and right along the shore, heading into the rest of the morning, by the evening, we'll start to see more of the scattered showers once again. the temperatures are pretty much going to stay in the mid-60s. this model is showing warmer temperatures. we're calling for a high of 65 degrees for philadelphia today. as we go into friday we could see a few more showers. mainly dry conditions for the weekend. temperatures will range between 63 and 66 degrees. cloudy and cool with a chance of where i'm seeing a lot of delays. if you're heading northbound from route 55 and walt whitman bridge. what i'm hearing and seeing on the cameras it looks like it could be a little longer. just a heads-up. moving into delaware 495 and the pike delaware clear of issues. if i didn't just jinx you but things are looking good. horsham, an accident just came into us, be aware of that. vai. >>> driver was extremely intoxicated and had no recollection of being inside the vehicle when it caught fire. listen as the officer describes the frantic moments. >> i was thinking in my mind things will be good. reached in there grabbed ahold of his arm. quickly, he came to i was able to pull him out and run from the vehicle. >> luckily, no one was hurt the local fire department is still investigating. it appears the fire started in the car's engine and was accidental. >>> 66 degrees outside. happening today, the transportation department will discuss new technology for reducing alcohol-impaired crashes. the event will highlight a driver alcohol detection system along with future advances and future developments. the d.o.t. says nearly 10,000 people are killed annually in head into this evening. we'll see the same thing but as we push into tomorrow we should see dry conditions of a little bit more sunshine for us and warmer temperatures but today, we'll stay below jersey lawmaker says this bill is intended to protect children who don't necessarily have a say in what they're exposed to. the bill that was introduced into the state senate would allow police to ticket people smoking with children under 17 in their car. it would be a secondary offense which means drivers can cannot be pulled over for smoking and they first need to be puddles over for another violation. some critics are calling this an invasion of privacy but advocates say it's long overdue. >> people don't understand there's a law that says you have to wear seat belts so why can't we say you cannot smoke with a child present. let's give these kids a chance to development they're held captive in there. >> reporter: this bill was introduced before but lawmakers were unsuccessful in getting it passed. lawmakers say they hope to have it signed and in front of the governor by the end of the year. currently four states and puerto rico all have smoke free car laws when children are double scan shows you those showers in burlington county are pretty much beginning to melt away and fall off the map. if we go in closer to areas to the south cape may county still looking at a little bit of a moderate shower pushing up between cape may and sea isle city. if i start this for you just briefly you can see how there's another batch that's coming in across the delaware bay and that may be hitting i was little bit later on. the wide view, though, shows that you most of the area is just as tam likes it drying out. as we take a look outside we have cloudy skies left over though and they're probably going to be pretty much a factor through the morning hours with the potential of some sunny breaks later in the afternoon especially in the northern half of the region. 55 currently in philadelphia and pretty much the same number everywhere. you go the a couple of 53's and 54's but it's a very similar feel from north to south across the region. in terms of rain and cloud cover today, between now and noon t-it looks like we are mainly dry maybe just a speck of drizzle or a little spotty shower here or there. as we get into the afternoon though, look at how we do have some breaks in the clouds and maybe even some of that working its way down into philadelphia so we're hoping to see some sun later today. the farther south you are through the region the less chance you have of that. up in allentown we'll go for clouds in the morning and some sun in the afternoon a high of 68 degrees. down the shore some spots will probably get up into the mid 60's others may hold at about 60 on the nose next to that cooler ocean water. lots of clouds, a spotty shower certainly possible. and in philadelphia, we'll go for a high of 67, about nine or 10 degrees better than yesterday in most spots in the immediate region, mostly cloudy, spotty rain, hopefully some sun breaking out later in the day and winds out of the east at eight to 16. and there's what the numbers are going to do today in the mid-50's still by 8 o'clock but then into the 60's by 11:00. we'll hit that high of 67 at about 3 o'clock this afternoon. for the union tonight at ppl park back home against the columbus crew, a rare midweek contest, mostly cloudy, mainly dry, 65 degrees for the start of the match, 63 in the 90th minute so maybe you get some sweatshirts on beneath those june jerseys and we'll see if the union can't beat the crew tonight. and then for tomorrow we've got more clouds in play. still a stubborn unsettled pattern, still kind of cool with lies only in the 60's again, although it will be mainly dry with just a couple of sprinkles and showers tomorrow. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, today's high 67, mostly cloudy. a shower can't be ruled out. but maybe some sun later in the day. and then tomorrow mostly cloudy 66, another real touch rain or drizzle but not particularly damp overall and then finally warmer on friday, a high of 77, partly sunny skies. there is the chance of a late day or evening shower or thunderstorm but it doesn't look like a washout, just something to keep your eyes on and of course we'll do that for you right here and online. 80 is your chinese state media says rescuers have pulled 18 bodies out of the yangtze river. they were among those who were on a river cruise ship that capsized in stormy weather on monday. more than 400 people are still unaccounted for. the hopes of saving them are dimming. the ship is still upside down in the yangtze. hundreds of rescuers continue to search the area but so far they have found only 14 survivors. >> today more videotapes of the colorado movie theater gunman will be played at his trial. they reveal more of what he told a psychiatrist about that night. yesterday the videotapes showed james holmes describing the 2012 deadly shooting. homes says he was calm and checked as he repaired to walk into the movie theater. holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and the and that is one fire. firefighters have been battling this blaze at this church for several hours overnight. it broke out after 3:00 this morning. when firefighters got to the scene flames could be seen shooting out of the roof. and it took nearly two hours for firefighters to get the fire put out. as of right now no injuries have been reported and it's still unclear what started this fire. >> [ cheers and applause ] >> i love. >> you if you want to get the glam squad makeover tips go to our website goodmorningamerica.com on yahoo! and maybe you can look as good as john. >>> one-on-one with joanna swisher, star of the new "the astronaut wives club" just ahead. congratulations, you guys. ♪ i know you lie ♪ >>> brand-new drama debuting called "the astronaut wives club" all about the women behind the men who launched into space and, of course changed the course of history. jesse, you sat down with one of the show's stars. >> i had a chance to talk to the supremely talented joanna swisher. the actress who plays betty grissom, the second lady of space. her husband gus grissom was the first nasa astronaut to fly into space twice and meanwhile she was back on earth trying to stay grounded. here's a look at a scene from "the astronaut wives club." >> hey, hon, you okay? >> gus is going up next. i'm going to be the second lady of space. >> you're the wife of the first nastia astronaut that nasa astronaut that gets to go to space. there's a competition going on between the astronauts. how did that affect their wives? >> it was such a unique circumstance. these women were simple military wives and were kind of thrown together and, you know their husbands obviously were chosen for this very elite group that it was obviously so exciting but there was a lot of terror involved. there were so many unknowns so many -- you didn't know if they were going to make it back. there was just a lot of questions so they came together. the story is really a story of sisterhood. a story of friendship coming together in a very unique unusual situation and how they supported each other through it. >> now, did you get a chance to speak to the woman who you portray? >> yes. >> what did she tell you. >> i met betty after the filming and grew to love betty and i have a lot of love for her and a lot of respect. betty was an incredible partner and certainly was not afraid to fight for gus and his legacy and i really understand that as a wife. i'm betty grissom. gus' wife so i took my marriage and that sense of commitment and friendship and wanting to protect and always honor that. ♪ [ applause ] >> you guys filmed it all in new orleans. >> we did. >> one of my favorite cities. >> amazing. >> did you guys have -- the cast were you able to actually enjoy the city? did you have any fun adventures? >> yes. yes, momma caught a few beads. okay. i came by them in the honorable way by a friendly manner not having to do anything you know too scandalous but we definitely -- i think that it was a great thing that for this particular story because we were all put into a new city and we were each other's support group and i think it really helped create this instant bond between% - pus and eventhe stronauts,all of us we came a little tribe and we ate our way and drank our way through that city. after a while it was like we got to start cooking. >> and something really interesting about gus as well for a man who dedicated his life to exploring space he said that he used to like to spend a quiet evening with his wife and children in his own living room. important to remember these astronauts were absolute rock stars. they spent so much time away from their families but gus grissom a very good father and family man. >> so brave. >> huge part of our culture. can't wait for this. thank you, jesse. involved. we have had steve keeley out there the a the scene all morning long in pennsville. you know, lot of the high school kids were going to be wearing colors of the school, steve. >> reporter: one of the popular juniors here absent from homeroom right now as other kids all in class. definitely he is present and the in the thoughts of every student teacher and administrator here. students just getting underway. we are far off school ground and not sticking our cameras in the young kids face we are able to show you their show of support for child for the recovery. they all followed through to wear the the blue and gold colors as kyle's surgeons told his family over the weekend that the next 48 hours are critical from his healing from those severe injuries and that hit and run not too far from the high school here. he is still listed critical at christiana hospital in newark delaware eight and a half miles from his gym locker. who knows how many miles the driver is since we are at crossroads of new jersey, delaware and pennsylvania right along the the delaware river. close to the delaware memorial bridge. police only know make and model of the vehicle that hit him a hyundai elantra and they know that because one of the parts that broke off during impact on the 50 miles an hour road is a windshield wiper motor with a serial number on it. it was 2:00 a.m. saturday for closing times for clubs and bars. so often a busy time still on many local main roads like hook road which runs to the delaware memorial bridge from salem. police believe he was hit from behind. pennsville police say sometimes in incidents like this a person may come forward a few days later to avoid being arrested for drunk driving. >> taking your trash out and say what are you doing, philadelphia was hit and killed by a drunk driver. >> yes this one happened last evening. thinks the scene right there in the 600 block officious ewing a street in the hunting park neighborhood. police say that this was a 28 year-old driver who ran a red light, striking that teenager who was simply riding his bike. witnesses raced right there and they did everything they can to try to save that child. they rushed that teen over to the hospital but he did die. new that driver stayed at the scene and in police told charges are pend ing. >>> today a bill is being introduced at philadelphia city hall sparked waste disappearance of that young man local college student shane montgomery. the legislation would require, places such as, bars and nightclubs and other place that he is serve alcohol, to place surveillance cameras outside at least the exit. shane went missing, thanksgiving morning after leaving kildare's pub in manayunk. his body was found in the schuylkill river in
