up new england states and all the way down through virginia and maryland the wind is the at the surface is out of the south. it shifts to the southwestange in wind direction, that could lead to these organized storms and even the potential for some of these storms to have damaging wind. there is a slight risk put out from the storm prediction center. it does go into some of the western counties. when you see a light risk that means there is thunderstorms and a few of them have the potential to be severe with hail and damaging wind. north and western suburbs that is the main area of concern throughout tomorrow afternoon. that damageing wind, with that change in wind direction you could see a little rotation here and get that line come through it's possible some of these storms could try to rotate a bit in indicating very damaging wind and the possibility that they could produce very minimal tornado there but that's the danger tomorrow as these storms move through. very heavy rain so flash flooding is possible when you get a lot of this rain coming down especially if it comes over the same area. so that's the big concern tomorrow throu

southwest frederick county. to northern loudoun county. other severe thunderstorms are potential. we have one out of east and west virginia to cross the state line before long. one thing i want to talk about is the lightning here. we have had a lot of lightning strikes. just on the screen. we have had 86. we have a lot of positive lightning strikes. we measure the negative and the positive lightning strikes. 95 are negative. they start low in clouds and come the ground. every now and then and we have had a bunch today the positive lightning strikes that start at the top of the storm. 45 to 50000 feet in the air. a single flash of lightning but it can be ten times stronger and ten times longer lasting than the regular lightning strikes. those are responsible for power outages and fires that are started by lightning. so this is a fully electrical charged storm. we monitor this as the lines of storm approach the area. the entire region under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11:00. the big picture in eastern pennsylvania out of southeastern ohio now. all of this is moving to the southeast. not everyone is going to get pounde
