our sales company started here in 1943 a few years after the racetrack opened in 1936. it was started because of the world war ii rail shortage. most of the horsemen were shipping horses to saratoga to be sold. without they roll service, they could not ship the horses to be sold. they started an option here on the grounds to service the local horsemen who are here raising their horses. it was set up as a trust because they did not want to be set up as a dividend paying corporation. they do not want able to feel like they wanted to make money off of this place. they wanted to fulfill the mission it was set out for. we have three trustees to govern our trust that our management team reports two. the association itself is owned by the community. in some ways, we are more like an arboretum than a racetrack. we only raised 32 days in -- 32 days a year, but we are or 65 days a year. we want people to come visit. lexington is unique. based on geography, topography is great for or since. son we have underneath is the same thing that makes our bourbon great. it makes us great gre

annie we are doing this a long time but maybe the first time we reported on a shooting at the racetrack. >> reporter: in employee's memory they can't remember hearing about violence like this at the racetrack either. the victim is at christiana hospital and he received one gunshot wound to his lower extremities and the suspect is being interviewed by detectives. deputies swarmed the stables following reports of a shooting, according to police a dispute ends as a jockey shot a trainer. >> some guy said this guy almost hit your truck and sped out the back gate. >> they said the argument was over a woman and yelled for her after he filed a single shot. >> the victim fled in the vehicle which he had arrived in and fled from the area and in the process it was learned he tossed a weapon that was involved in the shooting out the window of a car and into a creek. >> investigators row severed the gun and it was not long until they narrowed the search for the suspected gunman at the prides court apartment the man believed to be the suspect was taken into custody after a state police helicopter re

the racetrack in braynard minnesota, that's mangled there. and just look at this. and the gathering storms over indianapolis. quite a sight today. let's get right to meteorologist rob marciano, because this involves millions of americans and then the whole thing is moving eastward, right? >> reporter: that's right. over 300 reports of high winds in the last two days. some of them over 80 miles an hour. huge swath of damage. on the radar you see that line moving into the virginias now. that's gone over 800 miles in the last 20 hours. that's where all the damage is. we've got watch boxes up including that tornado watch for northern illinois, including chicago. but more clusters fire. st. louis, indianapolis in through louisville. these are going to have strong storms, big-time hail, as well. really concerned about northern illinois as we go through tonight. tomorrow, it slides to the east. tennessee the target zone. as is the carolinas and, yes, the east coast. feeding into these storms, extreme heat and humidity. so many americans are facing up and over 100 degrees.
