it started about 20 miles to the east of here and then quickly they had the first golf course which sat in back of the hotel which is just across the street at the country club and that of course then transitioned to the late course being the only surviving course and that is the one that we are on today here at country club. it is held in the position of the augusta of natural expedition of 1888 the first augusta national. when folks came to town in the late fall they fell in love with augusta and if they decided this is where they were going to spend their winters. they have not developed the west coast and augusta is where the lines are leading from. and convenient for the folks to get away from the winter weather. they would come to augusta and by the 19 hundreds, they blossomed overnight into the largest winter resort in north america so this was the winter home for president and the captains and the industry. he picked up the entire cabinet while staying at the hotel just down the street so they would stay here during the winter and until that april may p. or co. for seven months
