that's where the kevin hart 5k race is happening this morning. i want to switch you over to the map and go over details on tropical storm erika. let's show you exactly where the storm is. it's just moved out of haiti and parts of the dominican republic. what we're seeing right now is sustained wind speeds of 40 miles an hour so it's still a tropical storm but barely. it's moving to the west northwest at 20 miles per hour. as we head into the rest of today and then into tonight, by sunday, 2:00 a.m., you'll notice that we'll start to see this tropical storm turning into a tropical depression because our wind speeds are going to drop down as it moves over land, but what happens as it starts to move back over the warmer waters, we'll watch it turn back into a tropical storm once again. we're keeping a close eye as we head into tuesday at 2:00 a.m. to see if it's going to affect florida, the coast of florida and what's going to happen as it continues to track to the north. so we'll go over all the details, keep a close eye on the track for you. i'll

kevin sutherland was stabbed more than 30 times on a metro train in july. dozens of friends and family gathered on the campus of american university to remember a life taken too soon. our garrett haake was there and joins us now from the campus. garrett? >> reporter: bruce, students unofficially come back tomorrow and the fall semester begins. but tonight there were dozens and dozens of current and former au students here to remember a young man whose effect here was profound even though he was here only a short time. the memorial service for kevin sutherland was closed to cameras tonight, but even after it was over, the emotional gravity of that service was plain to see. sutherland's father traveled from connecticut to eulogize his son crying several times as he tried to get through his brief speech. kevin had been heavily involved in government here, student government. friends and colleagues from the school also spoke about what they hoped would be a legacy of service that he might leave behind. sutherland was the first of two recent au grads to be kille

kevin what is going on with the commodity markets.abilize some of these copper gold catches a bit for a couple of days. stabilizing with more pain to come? >> going back to what we said earlier on i think all you are seeing is inflation and what was an overinflated market. we have seen oil and copper prices below we have not seen his precious metals. it's $50 an ounce. so former ceo of pimco wrote an editorial yesterday talking about the historical correlations breaking down. not fitting into a higher gold price. how can we have that break down as far as you are concerned? >> they were fought -- flawed in the best place. gold is a hedge against deflation but it has never shown those properties. gold is not what it was 25 or 30 years ago. so those underlying investment cases were flawed in the first place. you have a temporary rationale recently which was you held what was effectively a currency and all this time there the other currencies on the planet which give you a zero yield. but we spoke about rate cycles we will see -- the inve
