bay, what are the challenges facing monterey bay? we know it's had an amazing recovery. what are the challenges it's facing now still? >> ocean acidification is a big one. like the video said, there's a delayed response. the impacts we're seeing today are actually from pollution 30 years ago. even if we stopped carbon emissions today, we're going to see this lag effect. that's a big problemme. locally we have serious issues with water quality in certain areas, shipping and fishing gear impact to marine mammals especially whales. big cargo ships that transit the area occasionally and unintentionally hit whales. we've had about ten whales struck and killed in the last 15 years in the sanctuary. we've got numerous entanglements in fishing gear from whales. 100 whales have been entangled in the last 15 years as well. these are issues we're trying to tackle that are big problems that require responses from a lot of different agencies and stakeholders. >> paul rogers, in many ways this is a success story, what's monterey bay. i'm wondering

monterey has cooled off a little bit. back to mild, almost tropical nights across the city and the coast. monterey bay went from 56 to 62. that warm water has made it up to the british columbia. that's a surge in the elements. there's a few 50s holding on to the california coast. the blob of warm water that's been in the gulf of mexico is -- gulf of alaska is a caveat to all of that. there's a movement, it's 39 in truckee, 89 in las vegas, this is warming 6 degrees warmer than it was yesterday. once the low kicks out and that will be by tomorrow morning, we'll start to see high pressure build back in. today it will be 60s, 70s and 80s but the weekend looks hot for some. near 100 for a few on saturday and maybe even sunday. the fog is on the coast. at that he is on the mild side. 80s on the temperatures, few pushing up on the 80s, temperatures running mild on the coasts, it looks like a quick warmup. it will be cooler next week. >> that is almost san diego temperature. >> that's the point. marine life in monterey bay is of

monterey is at 60 degrees. a tiny bit of fog. moisture is streaming off hurricane ignacio taking aim at southern california but even that is turning south. we are waiting for a system to the north. so mostly clear this morning expect for that patchy fog on the san mateo coast but a decent system here. now we will be on the southern edge of it. it will cool down after today. it will be sunny and breezy. cooler on wednesday. three hurricanes first time ever three category four in a same basin. that was on saturday. kind of flirting between category three and category four hurricane. all near the hawaiian islands. they are taking a path. that are going north to the islands. at least for right now. sunshine nice to warm. breezy maybe later today. 90s for a few. 70s for most. temperatures around the bay a little bit above. temperatures inland near average to maybe slightly above. 80s to upper 80s to 90s for the santa clara valley. it's nice on the coast. 60s and 70s. 71 in san francisco. 80s on the peninsula. wood side in there. coole
