let's bring in patrick horn beck. you talk about the popularity of pope francis, a pom says that 63% of american catholics approve of francis. beyond that, 41% of ordinary americans, who don't necessarily identify as clicks. have we seen that before? >> absolutely, stephanie, people all across the religious spectrum find something new and appealing in this pope. the numbers among catholics, i think may be a little low. previous polls were 70, possibly the high 70's. what may be happening is that people grasp a little bit more of the pope's full message, the full agenda. they're finding that he doesn't fit neatly into any of our american political categories. this is not a pope of the democratic party anymore than the republican party. because of that during his visit to the u.s., he's going to challenge everybody to think a little bit more about what his message is and how that relates to the important things now in american public life. >> people keep saying it's a pastoral visit and not political. >> pope francis be

. >> let's bring back patrick horn back, chair of the theology department at fordham university. he's been about us throughout the entire pope's visit. there's more to say about the amazing event. now that he's gone, what do you think he's left behind. >> it's been great being with you all this week. as the pope got on the plane, we saw people packing up behind us. i think we have to stop and reflect on the fact that three years ago, if someone told you that the leader of the catholic church would come to america, spend time with poor people, prisoners and immigrants, would have a rapturous reception from people all around the country, you'd tell me i was crazy if i suggested that to you. pope francis, over the course of the last 2.5 years, and especially over the last six days won the hearts and minds of american people. in a way that truly is press dented. >> thing bag to when john f kennedy ran for president, imagine the crowds and support for a catholic church leader, and the numbers that we saw, in the country. how do you make sense of the shift in soouds towards catholics.

let's bring back sally quinn and patrick horne back to talk about this. sally, the pope's been outspoken on immigration before. what do we expect he'll say about it to congress? >> well, i expect he'll be very strong on this subject. you know, it's only our issue in the united states has been exacerbated by what's going on in europe and the syrian refugees coming in to turkey and greece and then on up into germany. so he's got that to deal with. then he's got the situation in this country, and we're going to have to be taking in now i think 65,000 refugees from europe, from syria. so the pope is very much in favor of that. he's in favor of not separating families and giving amnesty to people who are here. he doesn't want anymore suffering. he doesn't want people to be poor. he wants people to have jobs and to be able to work. he also is very much -- he feels very strongly that we are a wealthy and prosperous country, and it is our duty to take people in from less prosperous countries where the people can't afford to live and where they're starving to deat
