and particular focus has been placed on the modernization of the port system. he main terminal, has a 12 meter deep area which enables these cargo ships to dock. it was originally built during the vietnam war for american military vessels. although it was severely out of repair, it can now handle five times more containers than before, thanks to an extensive makeover. a further round of construction commencing at the end of 2015 is expected to double the size of the port. once completed, it will cater for even larger vessels. the majority of them new jersey transit commuters. port authority officials are expecting mass confusion. >> dray clark is live to explain what is going on. good morning, dray. >> reporter: good morning, ken. most of the changes will require riders to go to new gates on a different level at the bus terminal. more than 200,000 riders pass through the bus terminal every day. these changes are a big deal. the majority of those 200,000 plus riders actually use new jersey transit or coach usa buses. starting today, all new jersey transit buses will be moving to the third floor and all coach usa are moving to the fourth floor. other bus lines are indeed affected but coach usa and new jersey transit are the two biggest carriers here operating out of the bus terminal. the port authority says that these changes are necessary to decrease congestion especially on the bus ramps that connect the terminal to the lincoln tunnel. also as you avoid two of the biggest bus lines being on the same floor and competing for the same space. >> two biggest players
