brandi hitt abc news, los angeles." the white house was on lockdown today after someone jumped a newly upgraded fence while the first family was inside celebrating thanksgiving. officials say the man jumped over a fence on the north lawn. that's the front door side along pennsylvania avenue. police say the man was wearing an american flag and carrying a manila folder. secret service agents almost immediately caught him. crews added sharp metal spikes to the top of the fence around the white house in june. the man was at least the third person to scale a fence and make it on to white house property this year. the u-s is on a heightened state of alert this holiday weekend. and that meant extra security for the macy's thanksgiving day parade in new york city. the 89th annual parade included marching bands, floats, and of course the giant balloons. a record number of police officers watched over the parade route. the threat of terrorism didn't keep the crowds away.
