abc 7 news reporter david louis is live at the scene with the latest about what happened there today. >> dan, as you can see, still a very much active crime scene. we have brand new details that originally came to police as a case of an e alleged battery. she was claiming she was sexually assaulted by her half brother. >> police were called to the ground floor apartment by a woman who says she got battered. they confronted a man at the front door who had a knife in his hands. police say they charged at him and that's when officers opened fire. police were not saying how many rounds were fired or how many times they were struck by bullets. the officers involved in the shooting are being questioned as part of the investigation. detectives are now busy working on reconstructing the sequence of events. the santa clara county sheriff's office sent in a specialized 3d camera system that will create a detailed view of the scene. >> we used it in several cases. it just provide a more real-life look at the theme. so when we're trying to recreate the events, that we can put things in place that can pu

dan, thank you. we'll see you at 6:00. >> turning now to breaking news where police have shot and killed a man. >> it happened in sunnyvale. david louis is on the scene with the very latest. >> larry and alma, you can see that yellow drive is still blocked off because apartment numb per 4 is an active crime scene. it all started at about noon today when a woman said she had been a victim of a battery. that's when police say she arrived and it got worse from there. sky 7 hd live on the scene. a man came to the front door, confronted officers. three officers then fired at him after the man lunged at him with a knife. police are not saying how many shots were fired. the man was wounded and then taken to a local hospital for treatment where he later died. none of the officers was injured. residents in adjoining apartments also said they were not hurt. police so far have not said whether the woman was injured other than to say that she is now with officers. a department spokes man describes what happened and why officers fired at the suspect. >> officers arrived on scene, made contact with an individual at the residence who was armed with
