in a kcrg t-v nine follow up tonight... there's some progress in efforts to find help for some of the homeless people in cedar rapids. a group of homeless spent the night sleeping and protesting outside city hall after police had ordered them to leave a camp near osborn park. but this afternoon the people met with mayor ron corbett. kcrg t-v nine's brea love was at that meeting. brea, what is the city planning to do? when mayor corbett heard the protesters wanted to talk this morning, he made time in his schedule for a sit down meeting. after a hour long conversation an idea was brought to the table, and put into action. the homeless have now moved from their post at city hall's steps and found space at morgan creek park. the meeting featured a dozen men and women sharing their stories, and allowing the mayor to ask questions to better understand. some spoke of substance abuse, others talked about mistakes in their past, but all of them say they're on the right track. mayor corbett invited local resources to the meeting, bu

stay wittyour 24 hour news source, kcrg t-v nine. johnson county's new minimum wage increase. the county's already raiseddthe minimum wage by 90 cents to eight dollars 20-cents an hour. that's the highest minimum wage in the state, and by 2017 it will climb to 10-10 an hour. today local clergy gathered with low wage workers on the steps of saint mary's catholic church in iowa city. the inter-faith group stood together in support of the new ordinance in johnson county that gradually increases the minimum wage. they also called on all cities in the county y support it. several cities passed their own ordinance to keep the wage at the state minimum of 7-25. one pastor says the time to raise the wage is now, especially with the holiday y season here. "this is a season for thanksgiving, but it is also a season for us to understand the resources we have as a communii and as a community... to better spread the wealth. in amana, mark carlson, kcrg tv nine news. investigators in anaheim, california, are looking for the cause of a fire that heavily damaged two adjacent apartment buildings. while firefighters battled the intense flames and heavy smoke they were able to get all the residents out safely. the red cross is helping about 40 people with temporary housing. in a tv-9 follow up... the iowa attorney general's office says a state trooper was justified when she fired her gun following a chase with a serial shoplifter. cedar falls police had issued an arrest warrant for 26-year-old tiffany reed of missouri. they say she took part in a theft at a von maur store with two other people. police say reed is also connected to thefts at jordan creek mall in west des moines. on october 1st, cedar rapids police tried to stop reed and a chase started down i-380 and onto 218. reed pulled off at the kum and go in riverside, and drove into a sheriff's squad car. that's when trooper jewel o'rear fired her gun, hitting a rear tire on reed's vehicle. office
