we have a 777 pilot, and contributor to the "faa magazine," and paul cruikshank our cnn expert, and what are you hearing, paul, does isis have a capability to bring down a plane in flight? >> pamela, increasing denial that this is a terrorist attack. a tweet was sent out by isis saying they did it, but they don't have a good track record of telling the truth, and they don't have the missiles to hit an airplane at 30,000 feet either. the manpower ones going up to 16,000 feet. that is what ar ra a wwa was re, and very important reportig from arwa that the there was no residue from the wreckage which suggests that there was no bomb that somebody managed the to smuggle on plane. that leaves sabotage as the only scenario, but it is much more like likely that it was some sort of catastrophic structural failure, and not terrorism at this point. >> and peter to you now, what is the condition of the bodies or the wreckage tell us about the crash, because it can be telling, i can imagine. >> well, once they have done the testing for the explosive resid residue, and a bomb or missile will leave ver

with more on that, i'm joined by cnn terror analyst paul cruikshank and what do you know, paul?es ago, a french invs. gator who has been briefed says they have identified the voice of a senior french isis operative on the videos that came out from isis claiming responsible. the operative in question is fabien clain. he has a long track record of terrorist ties. european counter terrorism officials tell me that he is also suspected to have played a hand in that attempted attack on the high speed train in august where those three american heroes lauded the attack, and also that attack on paris churches in april, and this is somebody with significant form in the isis movement, and this is part of the al qaeda rekruting cell in france, and he was also connected to al qaeda in toulouse, and he is to be part of the head there, and part of the language there in the group that is calling for attacks. >> any connection to the man they believe to be the mastermind of thet attacks here abdelhamid abaaoud. >> well, there are other belgian men who have climbed up the hierarchy of isis, and t

with us from the pentagon, and our safety analyst david soucie is live from the pentagon, and paul cruikshank joins us here live in the studio. what do we know, barbara? >> we know that a military flight over sinai detected an infrared flash in the vicinity before it fell to the earth. what are we talking about with a infrared flash? it is a flash of heat much d different than essentially the heat in the environment at that time. so it pops up very hot. this is, you know, related to whatever happened on board the airplane as it broke apart if it exploded, if there was some sort of mechanical failure, and if in fact, there was, and we do not know a bomb on board. these are the scenarios that we do know that the u.s. government is considering, is looking at. was it a catastrophic mek anile cal failure of some sort that is just understood yet, and we have to wait for the analysis of the black boxes, and other data or is it possible, we don't know, was a bomb put on board this plane at some point. the u.s. intelligence community scouring everything that it has, because the bottom line for them is

. >> paul cruikshank joins us. ul, how many changes in terms of security and the fight against isis after this attack? >> i think there's going to be a lot of scrutiny, particularly in the middle east. if this was somebody recruited by isis and sinai who was working at sharm el sheikh airport, that's really been the holy grail for terrorist groups over the last several decades, to recruit insiders at airports. i recall a case in the uk where a british airways employee had friends who sympathized with aqap, who were thinking about potentially helping aqap, the terrorist group, in yemen to try and get something on board a plane at heathrow. so this is not just a problem in the middle east but also a problem potentially in the west, jake. there was also that case of an american isis fighter who was killed in syria in 2014 who had previously been working at the mieapolis-st. paul airport. when it comes to the fight against isis, there are a lot of worries that this will turbo charge isis's popularity across the global j

and now joining us is our terrorist expert paul cruikshank. and paul, c4 is military explosive powerful enough to bring down a plane, but how easy is it to obtain? >> well, we know that the group that has claimed responsibility, the isis affiliate in sinai has stockpiled a large quantity of c4 explosives ash and they have used the c4 explosive in attacks this year, and so it would be consistent with isis in sinai to carry out the attack rather than the airport. it reports away from the lone wolf scenario, because it is difficult for an individual without connections to the wlished terrorist outfit to obtain this military-grade explosive, wolf. >> and matthew, there is a suggestion that the timing on the bomb may have caused the detonation of 30,000 feet about 23 minutes into the flight. here is the question. what if that plane had been delayed in takeoff? >> if that is the case, it wouldn't have mattered, wolf, because if it is c-4 as the explosive, it requires a blasting cap or the detonator, and so there has to be something to set it off, and

bring in peter goelz, and c nshgts n anchor correspondent richard quest, and our aviation expert paul cruikshank. the prime minister oflondon saying that it may have been brought down by a mbomb. >> and it is not in a press conference or news conference, but a statement that is to be pass ed passed to the millionth degree. and we can't say why didn't it crash, and now, as we know, the plane is going to be brought down by an exe ploeive device. you don't put out that type of information, and send more consular people in the region unless you are well on the way to the determination. one point, wolf, the egyptian tourism minister and i asked him about the security at shearn, and he said that it conformed to all of the international r regulation, and constantly reviewing it, but so far, they have no evidence that it was indeed a bomb. >> richard, a game changer, and peter goelz, what is your ass s assessment of the late breaking development? >> obviously, some conflict from the top of the investigation at the beginning. you have had metro jet saying one, and the egyptian government saying a number

join joining me is nic robertson and paul cruikshank. the fact that this man is wanted around the world, and this 26-year-old who is believed to be the master mind of it all. and the car in belgium with plates from there and he is nowhere to be found. like likely that he could have gotten out without more accomplices to help him, because at one time we were told it is 24-large and not 8-large? >> it is possible that he is underground with the accomplices at the moment. and the significance is the vehicle, and what we can discern from the way that the french security authorities have been approaching the vehicle, and subsequently removed it. and so it has belgium plates on it, and did he get there and manage to rent another car, and that is so unlikely, because he was already an arrest warrant out for him. and so is this a car that he had before, and a car that he preplanned and prepositioned as an alternate getaway vehicle, and do the french police believe that he is back to paris to get in that vehicle to drive off somewhere, and again,
