"outfront" now, katrina and s.e. cupp, our political commentator. is donald making a case for why there's a tale of two trumps. is it working, though? you say it was a nonfactor in the debate. >> well, he might not acknowledge but i think most people would acknowledge that the debate is not where he does his best work. i think it's inarguable when you watch him at the town halls, there's a lot more energy, he's a lot more effective. he swings harder and it's easier to land punches against people who are not physically in the room. and i think when he tried to land punches at last night's debate against kasich, against certainly carly fiorina, they fell really flat and turned some people off and on policy, whether it was immigration or putin, i think most of the other candidates got the better of him on those issues. >> katrina? >> well, look, i think that donald trump is just donald trump. he is the same person every time, though he's a little more calm in these debates but he didn't really lose anybody. if you liked donald trump before last night,

he wrote it in his book. >> s.e.? >> i think dr. stick to medicine and donald trump should stick to business. donald trump doesn't really understand what pathological means and you shouldn't diagnose ben carson. i don't think this is, you know, going to be an effective strategy. i'm not really sure -- it's interesting, because dr. carson's critics are trying to discredit him by suggesting that these stories of violence and redemption from his childhood didn't happen. meanwhile, trump is trying to reinforce that they did, which is a huge part of why dr. carson is appealing to his supporters that he went through this stuff and then, you know, became such a successful, accomplished doctor. so trump is essentially saying, no, they did happen. he's pathological. and, in fact, he might not have, you know, emerged as a completely cured, normal person. i just don't think that this is a good strategy to try to siphon off carson voters, if that's what trump is trying to do. >> what do you say, david, to the case trump is trying to make on his

s.e., what jumped out at you?ober but impassioned candidate who makes a lot of sense. but jeb bush as he discussed there refuses to tap into the anger of the republican electorate. and that is why you are seeing this disparity in his poll numbers even though he's a very convincing and able leader with great background. and while that may be admirable, the opposite, being the happy warrior isn't working either because he doesn't seem all that happy. he doesn't seem to be loving where he is. he seems like this is kind of an unexpected drag that he's had to put in this kind of time and effort to get to where he thinks he's going to get eventually. and i don't think that's engaging voters either. >> they say psychology beats ideology. and that's trump's advantage certainly. he's playing to how people feel. one of the things jeb bush did well in this interview, is he went at president obama in a way that i think is going to be certainly the main angle of attack in the general. which is, this man does not show the will
