today people will have the chance to tell the iowa utilities board how they feel about a proposed pipeline that would cross the entire state. so far there have been multiple protests against the pipeline, but the board wants to hear a lot of opinions. the bakken oil or the dakota access pipeline would move 570 thousand barrels of oil a day across 18 counties in oil fields in north dakota and go to refineries in illinois. kcrg-tv9's brady smith met with a local group of activists who will be at the meeting. ann christenson is one of the founding members of 100 grannies. she'll be at today's hearing before the iowa utilities board. it starts at 9 a-m, and speakers for and against the pipeline will take turns at the podium. each person gets 2 minutes to present his or her case. christenson says the pipeline would be disastrous for iowa's waterways, and there's no way that dakota access - the project developer - is able to guarantee it won't leak. the iowa utilities board is in charge of approving or not approving of the bakken pipeline through iowa. how did these people get on the board? they were appointed by governor branstad and then approved by the state senate. we're going to give you some insight into who these people are. we'll start with the chair of the board geri huser. she's from altoona, was an iowa representative. she's the only democrat on the board. her professional background includes an executive position with the iowa finance authority. next is libby jacobs. she now lives in west des moines. she's a republican, and was a state representative, representing iowa's 60 district which is in black hawk county. jacobs was president of the jacobs group, llc, a consulting firm - she was also director of community relations for the principal financial group. public records show she also donated $500 to governor branstad's campaign in 2010. the final board member is nick wagner. he lives in marion. he is a republican who also served in the house of representatives, he represented part of linn county. wagner used to be the
