few divers were out in amarillo, texas on the snow covered streets. along with high winds. to the west, much of new mexico is dealing with huge snowfall. more than 16 inches have fallen in some parts of that state. up to 24 inches is forecasted. meteorologist jason sydejko will be updating our forecast. jason s: it is going to be during the morning hours and will likely start affecting that morning commute as well. we could see some slick roads. the extra time you need, literally the entire state has some chance of seeing significant weather tomorrow. northwestern county under a winter weather advisory. winter storm warning out through early tomorrow morning. we don't have the signs of a yet, at least not in the state. eventually, as we head to the overnight, we start to see the accumulating snow into the morning hours tomorrow and into the afternoon as well. as we start the day, some of us will be picking up freezing rain and some sleet. some spots could even see upwards of a quarter inch or so. give us the extra time you need out there. roads will undoubtedly be slick. a

meteorologist mike sidle of the weather channel is in amarillo, texas. they could see a foot of snow there. good morning, mike. >> reporter: good morning. and historic storm for parts of eastern new mexico and western texas. in new mexico, they had as much as two feet of snow and eight-foot drifts. here in texas, two hours south of here lubbock picked up 11 inches and largest snowfall on record and now the snowiest december on record. keep in mind they only average about 8 inches of snow an entire season. all of the snow combined with an hour and causing blowing and drifting and shutting down many roadways including interstate 40 westbound and there is the amarillo sign. you can't go from here to the new mexico state line. i-40 interstate to oklahoma city is shut down and 287 to childress is closed because of the wind and the blowing snow. the winds are now beginning to diminish. yesterday, we gusted upward of 50 miles an hour for numerous consecutive hours. this morning, the winds are gusting 30 to 35 here in amarillo amarillo. by this afternoon, droppin

i will point out amarillo, texas here, lubbock, texas, they are saying roads are treacherous. they are getting calls into their service centers and emergency centers saying we need help. the roads are almost impassable in a number of areas, not just around lubbock or amarillo but all across the panhandle. oklahoma city, you're ready to see video of the ice kbr conditions. it doesn't look like much. just a thin layer. but look at this. i want you to listen to this as we well. it is absolutely terrifying for people because the layer of ice is about a half inch thick. it is expected to get worse. but there's another component i want to tell you about. that is we are currently seeing what has been a cell located to the south of hope, arkansas, that is the birth place of president bill clinton. but just to the south, there's been a report of a tornado that is associated with a cell that has been indicated. they are under a tornado warning and that goes for about the next five minutes. as i'm on the air, we'll continue to kbrup date you on that but we could see in some isolated area
