i had to read cervantes. these extraordinary writers, and i did not think i could do it. do not remember what the books were about. i remember doing it and remembering -- and thinking i was more capable than i thought i was -- i figured out how to do things and whether it was reading it cervantes book, like 700 pages in spanish, when i finished it i said maybe i can do calculus. that kind of experience has had a lasting impact because i think everything we do, we should be raising expectations on ourselves and others, rather than lowering expectations to excuse. the books i read now are all over the map. i read mostly to learn. i'm reading the biography of my dad, surprise.
