i do want to turn to john yang. all day we've been hearing that the la quan mcdonald case has been a tipping point. can you give us context about what else is contributing to the protest? >> i'm sorry, craig, i lost the end of your question. someone got in my ear. >> in addition to laquaun mcdonald, the officers of course has been charged with murder, what else do we know about what is contributing to the protests that we're seeing on the left side of the screen? >> you have seen so many cases. just in the past couple days, we had the dash-cam video of another police shooting released, ronald johnson, who was shot as he was running away from police just about eight days before la quaun mcdonald was killed. in that case, the state's attorney anita alvarez said he was not going to file charges, because the video showed he carried a gun in his hand. the video was of such poor quality, it's hard to say what does show up in that video. given the current state of distrust with police, that's been a point of contention. ju

lucy yang live at one of the night clubs at the center of this case. >> reporter: these are troubling charges of corruption and bribery against several officers at the 109th precinct. instead of clamping down on illegal drugs at clubs, they're accused of putting their badge for sale. no one is singing at these karaoke clubs in flushing but informants are against two officers. a lieutenant and detective are under arrest, charged with prosecutors believe they were getting cash each month from various karaoke bars in exchange for information on upcoming raids, keeping the karaoke bars in business proved to be a lucrative business. one of the officers was receiving $2,000 a month from one of the owners. on the force for ten years, he has now been suspended, bail set at $25,000. another officer, 50-year-old lieutenant robert sung turned himself in today and is now awaiting arraignment. now we're unable to get comments from the care observing clubs. this investigation by the attorney's office took two years could be indicted in the days to come. in flushing queens tonight, lucy yang, channe

eyewitness news reporter lucy yang is in the morris park section of the bronx with new information. lucy? >> reporter: well, joe, a 51- year-old bronx father is now awaiting arraignment for allegedly killing his 2-month- old baby boy. we're told a savage murder happened here in his apartment on bogart avenue in the morris park section of the bronx. we're going to show you a shortly after birth. those smiles would not last investigators tell me on december 10, the newborn, mason white, was crying as newborns do, and that 51-year-old jose him. police believe he took care of him by smothering and choking the baby to death. when the mother came out to see what had happened, she said he threatened to kill her, too. two days later, authorities report the couple disposed of the baby in a wooded area in brewster, new york. we just obtained this surveillance video from the apartment building. a worker said detectives identified this man as the father and they believe the baby's body was in the duffle bag. this heartbreaking story, finally coming to light last week when the mother apparently

nbc's john yang, thank you. jim cavanaugh is a former atf agent, now an msnbc law enforcement analyst. you watched the whole video and the presentation. this also speaks to the realtime reactions needed by those on the front lines of law enforcement. what stands out to you from looking at this grainy, non-hollywood quality video? >> it was pretty clear to me that the shooting here by the police was justified. it was within the realm of legal authority that police can use. when you take a totality of the circumstances and that's what alvarez was trying to show up, the totality, the two prior incidents of gunfire before the suspect clearly running away multiple times from the police, repeated orders to drop your gun, to stop, physical engagement with officers who tried to physically stop him and they could not, all of the officers saying they saw him with the browning high power nine millimeter in his hand. that's a large gun. i saw the freeze frame. i believe he's carrying a gun. it's pretty clear. you have the w
