as this system moves into some very cold air already in place, any precipitation that develops will first fall as snow early on friday. then, during the day, as low pressure moves over the area, it will drive in slightly warmer temperatures, which will cause the snow to transition into rain. once the low exits the coast by saturday, colder air will wrap around the backside of the low, causing any rain to transition back to snow. the highest snowfall amounts will likely be in the richmond area. however, some areas across hampton roads and ne north carolina could see several inches of snow as well. so how much snow are we talking about friday and saturday? for the peninsulas, we could see anywhere between 4 and 6 inches of snow. however, some higher amounts are possible in those communities, specifically the middle peninsula and the northern neck. southside, the eastern shore and parts of north carolina could see anywhere from 2 and 4 inches of snow. the outer banks will see less snowfall we continue our live team winter coverage this morning with a potential winter storm on the way crews a

danielle: snow and cold air moving in. the coldest air we've seen thus far this season. don't shoot the messenger, folks. just telling you what's going o we're starting the morning in the 20's and 30's across the area. 26 degrees in worcester right now as well as out in western mass and pittsfield. it is 31 degrees in boston. 29 in portsmouth. 34 on nantucket. but take a look. you see this purple color and this white color. yeah, we're going to take this cold air from canada and bring it right down into our area. the other thing we have to talk about though is these winds out there today. you can see they're sustained anywhere from 10-15 miles an hour. so that creates what's called a wind chill value. so wind chills this morning starting out in the teens and 20's. unfortunately, even with some sunshine today and the air upper 30's today, it's going to feel more like the low 30's and upper 20's due to the winds but we will see a lot of sunshine even though this morning some areas starting out with some flurries around. upper 30's, low 40's for highs today. but again big c

the gesturing is a fast-moving river of air that divides the cold and warm air across the region. the cold air is going to settle on top of us the next two days. it will be brutally called considering most of us are not used to the cold air considering how warm december was. we do have a few snow showers rolling through, especially in the higher elevations. the sunniest areas where we have clear skies from concord south and east up to the north and west, it was more of a cloudy day with the clouds stubborn. snow showers are mainly in the higher elevations. some heavier snow showers may be between north conway toward berlin. be very careful in these areas. it could be slick this evening with snow showers moving through. there is an arctic cold front from quebec city down across the great lakes. across the area. it will trigger more snow showers through the night and allow the colder air to come through. much colder air. snow showers passing through. there may be a couple of them in central and southern new overnight. tomorrow morning, no more snow showers. we will have sunshine. up
