. >> and the political analyst, brian sobel. thank you for joining us. we'll start with you, brian. what did you think about the debate without donald trump? some analysts say it was boring. i thought that was interesting. i didn't miss any one-liner. >> i agree with you. i think it was a good debate. the world without trump. i thought that marco rubio did a very good job tonight, actually. cruz was being assaulted by a number of other people on the stage. but at the end of the night, again, i think marco rubio comes out on top. >> professor, let's go to you. the same question to you about the impact without donald trump. >> yeah, i agree with brian on every subject we have been on so far. today, i found rubio to be impressive each time. i think i'm going to go against the green this time and say, i don't think rubio did so well because he was shown to be a flip flopper in his own face on the issue of abortion and immigration -- rather, excuse me, on immigration. every line he offers was a punch line like he had practiced and rehearsed his line. he just kept trying to hit a home run

candidate performed tonight, joining us now on the left side of your screen is political analyst brian sobel. >> on the right james taylor a professor of political science at the university of san francisco. thank you both for joining us. james first to you it's crunch time just a few weeks from the iowa caucuses. what are your thoughts tonight and who stood out to you? >> yes, after trump held his own, cruz held his own and rubio held his own. john kasich will get a bump from his performance. but the remaining slate to me was unimpressive. although that he stayed in the mix, you know, throughout the debates. but in the long range i think that the top three have been identified. we have cruz, trump, and rubio. not necessarily in that order on the top of the ticket. >> brian now to you who did the best tonight in appealing to voters? >> reporter: ewe lee, my feeling is that trump had a very good night, not the lead with them, but quieter and a great counterpuncher with a good job here tonight. he's the professor, also had good nights. but looks like they would win tonight's debate. >> reporte
