a long cold-night is ahead for fort dodge fire fighters... they expect to remain at the scene of a massive fire making sure it doesn't reignite. good evening. i'm erin kiernan. and i'm dan winters... it was hard to miss the smoke in fort dodge this afternoon... it was part of one of the city's biggest fires in years... this is a big fire. fortunately they are few and far between. and think the last big was a church downtown that burned a few years ago this fire could take days to fully put out. was full of tires.. which smolder and can easily reignite. the fort dodge fire department called in help from webster city. the webster city department brought in its tallest ladder truck... allowing firefighters to attack the flames from above. the burning tires weren't the only worry for firefighters. we got a heavy load of tires and there was some propane tanks that ended up exploding during the incident. its a matter of putting enough water to finally bring it out one firefighter suffered a minor injury. no one else was injured and the cause remain
