report of the oily rainbow type sheen on the potomac river surfaced wednesday. the spill stretching five to six miles south by the wilson bridge. the u.s. coast guard and the environmental agencies from virginia, d.c., maryland coordinating the clean-up including oil booms and soaking materials in the water at gravelly point near the airport. >> i can't characterize the nature of the oil in the water. >> the big question, how did this happen is unanswered. dominion power experienced incident at the crystal city facility two weeks ago but today in a statement they said this -- we have no evidence to indicate the sheen is from a recent mineral oil spill at a dominion substation. we recovered 90% of the mineral oil as well as 200 tons of dirt around the site. >> i can't rule in or out any source at this point. as the investigation continues we will attempt to determine if there are responsible parties involved. jeff: the geese are now in the hands of the wildlife officials on the way to delaware for rehabilitation. >> it's unfortunate that maybe the water is not as

we can tell you here we still see the sheen of oil on the river here and back in the wildlife refuge, and the smell is still very strong, and as you said, this was first reported on february 1st just above reagan national airport and an eight-mile stretch of the river, the sheen showed up on all the way down to the wilson bridge but most of the oil has been contained to a wild fowl sanctuary and in that sanctuary so far 30 wild canada geese have been removed and taken to delaware for decontamination. we can tell you also a duck was taken. so far they say those are the only wild animals that have been removed and they hope to be able to relocate them back in this area soon. you'll probably recall that last week we reported that a local utility had a mineral oil spill not too far from the site of this fuel spill. we asked the coast guard today if these test results exonerate that utility company. here is what they had to say. >> the spectrum that mineral oil has a chance to fall within the spectrum of the fuel oil, so until we get the full comparison, dominion has been supportive of thi
