has said that this is not really an issue of polluting the air or endangering the clean air. they simply made a decision that they were not going to have a subcategory to deal with these plants. the gentleman's amendment would require the e.p.a. administrator to certify, that the act would not result in any increase in emission of air pollutants, i mean, they've already basically said that. but one thing that he does not look at in his amendment is the tremendous benefits that the public is receiving by the cleaning up of these coal refuse piles around the country. so for those reasons we respectfully oppose the gentleman's amendment, and i would remind everyone once again , the sense act is designed to clean up these environmental problems. to protect 1,200 direct jobs, 4,000 indirect jobs, $ 4 million payroll, all doing so -- $84 million payroll, all doing so without increasing any emissions, toxic to the american -- emission toxic to the american people. for that reason i would respectfully oppose the gentleman's amendment and yield back the balance of my time. the chair:

it's an air bus a320 it landed at 8:46. an earlier report saying the pilot or somebody on the flight deck declared an emergency. joining us now on the line from athens is free-lance journalist what are you hearing? >> reporter: well, we can confirm from the cyprus foreign ministries that the plane was indeed highjacked this egypt arizona liner, it landed and from we are hearing at the moment, the negotiations seem to be underway. between the highjackers or highjacker, we are not sure if we are talking about one person or more between the cyprus authorities there seems to be some talks apparently underway. we can confirm that this was a domestic flight. that it was traveling from alexandria to cairo. there were conflicting reports as to how many people were on board. we can say that there were at least 50 passengers on board. and we are hearing that women and children may be allowed to disembark the plane. now, this, a lot of the information that's coming out, is obviously last minute, unconfirmed. greek media are showing th
