kron 4's charles clifford has details. every few years, the u-s geological survery creates new maps showing which parts of the county are most at risk for earthquakes. until now, the maps only showed the dangers from naturally occurring quakes, but this time the authors, including geophysicist andrea llenos, have added in man-made, or induced, earthquakes. the kind that often hit in place with little or no historic seismic activity sot so you don't even know it could happen until it does in recent years, there's been increased concern about the dangers of induced earthquakes. these quakes, which can sometimes reach magnitude of 3.0 or greater, are often the result of wastewater from oil production being injected into the ground. it's become a big problem in the midwest and eastern parts of the country. standup here in california, we do have induced earthquakes, but the new maps don't show where. that's because we have so many naturally occurring quakes that geologists can't tell the difference between the two. sot also, be
