. >> we are joined by author luther campbell. here is the book. mr. campbell, what and where is liberty city? >> guest: about ten minutes away from here. fifty-eight and 10th avenue right in the heart of where i was raised at. martin luther king boulevard. >> host: what is it? >> guest: a historically black neighborhood. one in which black folks, when we 1st moved here everybody lived in overtown, and we eventually started moving to liberty city. so my dad, like i talk about in the book, was one of the 1st persons to purchase a home there. they did not know he was black. when he showed up he already had the deposit, but at the end of the day they were like, we did not know we were selling to a black guy. he was one of the 1st to move to liberty city. >> host: and the deposit went from 500 to 2500 overnight? >> guest: exactly. >> host: what is two live crew? >> guest: a group i eventually got into. i was a mobile dj around here in miami. the guys came, just like every other band that was struggling. eventually they said they want to do songs where we g

i interviewed luther campbell a few months back.he said in the barber shops there are some african-american who is are going to say i like donald trump. he's saying he can bring jobs. tavis smiley recently wrote a piece for usa today essentially saying trump could have some resonance with african-americans. do you sense any of that in your community and does the violent nature of the rallies counteract tra? >> i haven't sensed that. i've sensed that people are afraid when their kids walk to school. the jobs won't do any good if the kids aren't here to have the job. what we need is our community to be safe. people should feel safe in their communities and they have an opportunity to grow and become productive citizens in america. any time the children aren't free to walk these streets and go to and from school and they're surrounded by the terroristic acts, that's not an american i want to live in. >> you're a hillary clinton supporter. she has talked about criminal justice issues. bernie sanders has. and yet you don't really see, at
