the bus bridge will be in place to get people from the pittsburg base station and north concord, and the riders just got off of this us, and we presume that here at the north concord station, the entire section of track between the pittsburg bay point and the concorde point, they're trying to pinpoint what the electrical problem is that is knocking the trains out of service, and there is a power surge in this part of the system. a number of 80 cars knocked out by a similar issue in february. bart is running the shorter trains during the peak commute hours leading to more crowded trains and frustrated riders. people are saying they to get themselves a lot of extra time to get to work. >> i get up earlier and make sure that i leave early enough to get to san francisco. >> it's okay but i wish it would open back up because it's hard to get into work. >> reporter: the bart engineers rent a test train along the tracks between the pittsburg bay point and the north concord, trying to figure out where this spike in the voltage is happening that is knocking these cars out of service. the bus b

the men took off in her car.an acura sedan. concord police say they have a man in custody in connection with a highway shooting last month. they say joshua cano was driving the car used in the highway 242 shooting. it happened just before the grant street exit in the northbound lanes. a man was injured in the shooting.and was treated at a hospital. good news for bart riders--- shuttle trains are now in service. instead of walking outside to get on buses. passengers now stand on the same platform to continue to the pittsburg/ bay point stop. bart passengers have had to deal with shuttle buses between the north concord and pittsburg/ bay point stations for a week. an electrical problem damaged a number of cars. fixing them will take a long time - and could cost roughly 100-thousand dollars. trains will be shuttling >>:they had buses that were lined up back-to-back and if this ever happens again i hope that bart does it again because it was very useful >> catherine : trains will be shuttling passengers from the north concord station to pi

again, between the north concord station and the pittsburg-baypoint station after about 25 trains broke down. engineers spent the day looking for any sign of what may be causing power surges that are frying a piece of the train's propulsion system. this happened last month, as well. it was in the transbay tube taking 80 train cars out of service and repairing these cars is not easy. >> it isn't readily available making the problem worse. we are able to quickly fix the piece of equipment by borrowing from a different car. >> reporter: so commuters who are using bart this morning will be boarding shorter trains today. trains with fewer cars. and that means of course they are going to be more crowded at a time when bart is already seeing record ridership numbers. we are going to hear more from the bart spokesman later this morning about how they expect this morning's commute to go but be prepared for long waits shorter trains and might want to take your car. but, of course, that's going to cause more traffic. we'll keep you posted throughout the morning. anne makovec, kpix 5. >>> some ride

kpix 5's anne makovec joins us at the concord station where commuters are facing a second day of disruptions. anne, good morning. >>> reporter: anybody coming into san francisco from the far east bay will have to start their journey at the north concord bart station. this is now the end of the line. that means anybody coming from the pittsburg-baypoint area has to take a bus to this station. and this is going to have lasting effects on the entire system because of a lack of -- [ signal breakup ] bart [ signal breakup ] shut down the part of the tracks between concord and pittsburg. that's the yellow line yesterday afternoon after 25 trains broke down. [ signal breakup ] engineers spent the day looking for signs of power surges that are basically frying a piece of the train's propulsion system. now, this happened last month, you may remember, in the transbay tube taking 80 train cars out of service and repairing them is not easy. bart is having to take part from other cars in order to repair some damaged cars. commuters are obviously frustrated. >> this delay in bart. i live [ indiscernible ]

rob roth is live at the north concord station which for now is the end of the line.ter: that's right. still another problem on bart. passengers heading to pittsburg- bay point had to get off here and travel the rest of the route by the shuttle buses. it there are now 14 shuttles so the lines haven't been too bad. barth says the problem is a piece of electrical propulsion equipment between the stations. the equipment on the tracks which protects the motor is being damaged by electrical surges. this is similar to the problem that occurred two weeks ago when some 80 cars were damaged. today about 24 cars were damaged. so it is the same symptom but bart is still trying to figure out if it's the same problem. all this could affect the commute for tomorrow morning. >> shorter trains because we're already very crowded. this morning 16 trains were one car short. so tomorrow it's probably going to be worse, honestly, and that's unacceptable. we realize. that we are doing everything we can to get those damaged trains back in working order and to get to the root cause of this p
